It's not the same

Chapter 9

With that thought in my mind, I couldn't sleep. There's no way I could kiss Gino or Lucas. NO WAY. Maddie has a serious crush on Gino! And Abby says I'm not allowed to talk to Lucas because he's in my age division.

I sit up and look over at Maddie. She looks so innocent. I know I can't kiss Lucas, because that would psych me AND him out. I mean that could be a benefit but still. Would Maddie hate me forever if I kissed Gino? She would have to get over it someday.

I end up drifting off, but when I wake up I panic. I sit up and look around the room once again and see all the girls asleep.

I lay back down. She doesn't even have to know that I kissed Gino so it doesn't matter. Wait shoot she does. It's a dare. Damn. But how would they really know? it's not like they're gonna have to watch me kiss him. They can't do that. I think I would rather kiss Gino because he's older than me and I don't know him as well. Laying there I can't help but wonder what time it is. I get up and walk over to where all our phones are charging. When I grab mine I accidentally knock one onto the floor. I pick it up because ya know I'm a nice person and I check the screen to see if it's cracked. Luckily, it's not. That's when I see the text message on the screen. 1 new message from Lucas. LUCAS. Who would be texting Lucas? That's against the rules, AND what if they told him about the dare?? I have to see what they were talking about. Except I can't do it here. I grab the phone and then I run to the bathroom and lock the door behind me. I don't turn the light on because I'm still a little drowsy and don't wanna blind myself.

I sit on the bathroom floor and turn on the phone. There's no passcode, SCORE! I look at the background and it's a picture of Maddie (not my sister Maddie) kissing a dolphin. Wow REAL original. My sister has that same wallpaper except it's her not this Maddie. I open up iMessage. The texts say this:

(M: Maddie, L: Lucas)

M: Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

L: Same;) what's up?

M: Oh nothing much, I'm at a really boring sleepover with the dance team. They wanted to 'welcome' me and Makenna. EW

L: Oh dang I'm sorry that must suck. what are you guys even doing?

M: Playing truth or dare and it's pointless. oh and btw Mackenzie might kiss you at the competition tomorrow.

L: EW!!! WHAT???

M: She chose dare and it's either you or Gino.

L: HELP ME!

Seeing this made me a little disappointed. What did I ever do to Lucas??? I guess that makes my decision final for sure. But this still doesn't explain why she's texting him. I keep going.

M: I can't wait until me and Makenna can go back to Candy Apples and finally be on your team.

L: Same I have no idea why Cathy wanted you two to join the ALDC as a test for if you can be on our team.

M: I think it's just because she didn't want Abby to recognize us if we were on the CADC first.

L: How's the information coming?

M: Well here's what we know:

- she barely comes up with the choreography it's always Gianna.

- Mackenzie is really easy to psych out

-Kendall is a brat and is so ungrateful for being on the team

L: I already knew all that Maddie lol.

M: haha wait I g2g but I'll text you when I wake up.

L: Bye lol good luck;)

I turn off her phone with tears in my eyes. I don't even know what I just read. I. I. I. NO. THIS CANT BE TRUE. Makenna already hates me, and now she's actually apart of the Candy Apples? NO. There's no way. I stand up. I am NOT easy to psych out, and I'll show them that. I can do this.

I stand up quietly and get ready to walk out of the bathroom. That's when I hear the doorknob turn.
