Chapter 5
Mickie’s P.O.V.
“No you’re not. If you were you wouldn’t have done it in the first place,” I shot the words at him like a venomous snake. All of the sudden his arms were around me and he was holding me tightly.
“Can you give us a minute?” I couldn’t see him, but I’m sure he was staring at Jay.
“We don’t need a minute,” I mumbled in his ear, “we’re done here.” He let go of me and held me at arm’s length. “Who is she?” I demanded.
“Her name’s Nikolette, or Nikki.”
“Why was she at your house?”
“She showed up.”
“Why?”
“She didn’t say, but I was going to tell her it was over between us because I found my mate.”
“And how did that work out?”
“It didn’t. As soon as I let her in my room she was all over me. I tried to get her off of me but I couldn’t.”
“I’m sure you tried your hardest.”
“I did! Do you know how it feels when you’re with someone else other than your mate?!”
“No.”
“It killed me to kiss her! But she would not stop!”
“Really, you promise?” I hated caving but I couldn’t stay mad at him too long.
“I swear on my life.”
“I believe you but that doesn’t mean I’m going to forget this easily.” He nodded and then pulled me back against him. I was looking at the floor. He put his hand under my chin and forced me to look at him. I looked deep into his eyes and saw a million apologies. I couldn’t look away from him. He leaned towards me and mouthed I’m sorry before kissing me. I melted against him every time, no matter how much I fought him. He pulled me as close as possible and then broke the kiss. He held me against him and rested his head on the top of mine.
“What’s your history with Nikki?” I asked into his chest.
“I think I’ll leave you guys alone and go talk to Tristen and Matt,” Jay said and then closed the door behind her. Zack surprised me and picked me up bridal style and walked us over to the bed. He sat down and I was on his lap. I leaned my head against his shoulders and he rested his hands on the small of my back, sliding his hands under my tank top.
“I met Nikolette when I was in Talen’s pack. We were on patrol and Talen came across this girl asleep under a willow tree. I carried her home and she was treated by our healers. She hung out with me while I was with Rose. I lost touch with her after I left the pack. About a month ago she found me again and asked me out. I hadn’t met you at the time so I said yes.”
“Ok, but you don’t like her anymore, right?”
“No, I don’t like her. I’m in love with you.” I smiled and then slowly fell asleep to his heartbeat.
