Chapter 2

Jax

As soon as we got to Emma's place, we first scanned the house for Mr. Alonso. Their kitchen was clean, the television was turned off, everything was neat, which meant Mr. Alonso was not back yet. Emma took in a slight mischevious smirk when we found out that we have the place to ourselves.

This is gonna be fun.

She took my hand and pulled me to her bedroom. She sat on one side of the bed after placing her books on the bed and I sat beside her, only a thin layer of space between us. I leaned closer and placed my left hand on the bed to keep my balance.

The mischevious smirk quickly turned into an adorable innocent smile when she asks, "Did you bring your books?"

"We could use yours or I'll just conjure one up." I raised my eyebrows suggestively and shrugged. Magic solves a lot of problems in life.

She sighed in disappointment and shook her head. "Jax! You know we can't use magic for everything. Where's the trying-to-be-responsible Jax Novoa you promised?"

I mentally laughed. I mean, I have been trying to become a better person for her even back when she was still-- you know what, nevermind. I don't want to think about it right now.

I may not want to think about it, but I do want to rant about it.

It's just so damn unfair that I found the love of my life and one wrongdoing can lead to me being separated from her for eternity. Yeah, she can still be my friend but it's a lot to hold to have to keep all these feelings inside.

Now I'm stuck on the friendzone.

"Jax," she laid her palm over my hand which sent shivers all over my body. Gosh, have I fallen in love that hard for someone I can't be with? This is damn harsh. "You doze off quite a while there. Anything wrong?"

Yeah, I fucking love you but we can't be together.

"Nothing, I'm fine. Just a little headache, that's all." She looks at me with curiosity and disappointment all at once. That defines how much we know each other: we know when the truth is told and when it is not.

"Anyways, can we both agree to avoid using magic on our study sessions? I know school can sometimes be boring--"

"--it's always boring. It's no fun without magic." I cut her off, complaining.

She grabs a purple pillow from her side and smacks me with what I think she thought was hard. Oh, Emma.

"Take," smack, "that," smack, "back!" smack, laugh.

I take the pillow away from her and she pouts adorably, if it was even humanly possible. "Not unless you tell me something fun we could do without magic. So... good luck."

She playfully grinned. "Well, that's easy," she sexily whispers. I start to stiffen when she caught me off-guard as she wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned closer so that her lips were barely an inch away from my ear. "There's a lot of fun things we can do without magic."

All I could think of was how the hell was she doing this to me. I must've rubbed on her more than I thought I would.

While I was still processing what was happening, she had already sat on my lap, facing me so that she was straddling me. She giggled as soon as she saw the smirk on my face. What can I say? I couldn't help it. "Fun hasn't even started yet and you're already having a good time."

"Shut up," I grinned, pulling her chin closer and finally kissing her.

Emma

He grinned and leaned down to meet my lips with his own. I sighed in nothing but happiness and he couldn't possibly let the opportunity go to waste.

He slipped his tongue in my mouth, fitting it with mine, and he smiled against my lips. I felt a blush rise in my cheeks, but I made no protests, or moves to stop him. Instead, I moved my hands from his waist to his neck, pulling him even closer to me. His hands rested on my waist, holding me flush against him.

I couldn't help but love this trait of Jax's. Not a single second passes does he not make me feel loved eversince I met him. It was like fate set this up for us, then broke us apart through my dad.

I heard the door creak open but slams shut nearly a second right after. It could've been anyone and I would care less: Andi, Philip, Mia, Dad...

DAD.
