Prologue

The city of Toronto is lit up with street lights and not one soul can see me crouching on the highest building. The air is so fresh with the wind blowing through my hair, unlike the fumes of passing trucks, or the garbage bins that are placed at almost every damn corner of every street.

Freedom. Which means I dont hear someone constantly nagging in my face or touching me when I dont want them to. I wish I could stay up here forever. Now that would make me happy.

A scream pierces the night and I can tell where its coming from. My vision has always been so perfect, like I have fifty-fifty vision. I tried telling someone that once, didnt end up well. Thats another story for another day. Time to help this poor girl running in the dark alley.

I jump down from the building and land on all fours, on top of a metal balcony. I jump over the railing and catch the ladder made of the same material, hopefully it wont break on me. I place my feet on each side and slide all the way down to the next balcony and so forth until I reach the ground. Good thing I wore gloves today.

I start running as fast as I can. Which is pretty fast because the man I just passed by did not see me. Pretty sure he didnt even feel that little wind hit his face. Considering I can do all of this and no one else Ive encountered can

I believe Im not human.

Then what am I?

I still have no clue.

I reach one of the men chasing that poor girl and I kick one of his running feet. It crosses over the other foot; making him do a superman pose and fall flat on his stomach. Without missing a beat, I grab his head and twist it quickly sideways; making it snap. All this, took me probably five seconds, maybe less, and Im already catching up to the other dumbass.

What to do with this one? Sometimes I need to be a little creative because it just gets so boring killing people, and the last thing I want is to be bored while killing someone. The alley is narrowing and I take this opportunity to run on the bricked wall, jumping high enough to land on the perpetrators shoulders. I think I almost gave him a heart attack because he screamed so loud, more like a banshee screech. That actually scared me, and I rarely get scared of anything. I end this torturous noise inside my ears by breaking his little puny neck.

The girl actually stops running and turns around. Probably wondering what that horrible sound was. She looks pretty badass with that leather jacket, leather leggings, and leather gloves. All black.

Did I say I needed your help? She says to me.

I raise my hands. Well sorry. Next time, try not screaming. I turn around to leave.

Wait, Im sorry. Whats your name?

Im Bethany, but you can call me Beth. You?

Im Georgia.

How come I cant smell you? Are you not human?

Chapter 1

We ran so fast around the huge building; I think that was a new record. Now were exhausted and only managed to steal one loaf of bread. All the energy we spent, and thats all we managed? Damn little boy. Saw us stealing and had to scream at the top of his lungs. Hes lucky I still feel some pity at times.

We put our hands on our hips and take deep breath by lifting her heads up; looking at the sky. I walk in circles to calm my nerves. We almost got shot.

Shot!

Christ.

Its alright B, we can still share this and be good for another couple of days. My friend is always so optimistic. I, on the other hand, wanted to kill every damn person standing in that place. She believes they shouldnt die because we want food. She keeps me sane. I always look up to her and shes the only person I ever listen to.
