CHAPTER 1

The prophesy

As the fires of hell burned brighter and brighter. Chaos and destruction reigned down onto the city of Clem. This was the beginning of the cloud war. Armies upon armies tried to defend their countries, cities, and homes before it was to late. The war lasted for over 50 years; some men died and some lived to fight another day until one day a girl appeared on the hillside. With long, curly, waist length, flaming red hair, red lips and big bright soulful forest green eyes and skin as pale as the snow that fell to the ground at her feet and her name was ‘Alexandria’.

“Dad, would you stop telling my only child your silly stories. You’d think she would get over them but when your not here she just re-enacts them” said Stephenie a bit putout.

Alexandria gave an annoyed sigh “Look I don’t re-enact nothing” this was the only thing that annoyed Alex to no end you see she loved listening to her grandfathers stories.

Stephanie and her dad look at each other, smiled, and then looked back at Alexandria and said in unison, “ Not nothing, ANYTHING, get your English straight”.

Alexandria rolled her eyes and groaned as if it was a joke used to many times she was never able to pass her English and grammar exams, but when it came down to her ancient language classes she passed them with flying colours

Stephanie  glanced  across  at  the  clock  and  sighed.  She  always  did that.  Alexandria  didn’t  know  why.  Whenever  she  asked,  Stephanie  always  gave  a  half  formed answers like “habit…when  your…”,  giving  Alexandria  cause  to  think  her  Dad  had  something  to  do  with  it.

Alexandria had never known her dad. Stephenie, her mum, had told her that it didn’t workout so they split up and she never saw or heard from him again. It was a once in a lifetime thing and she wouldn’t give it up for the world she had said.

                                                                       -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

“I’m going for a walk”, Alex’s mum said out of the blue one night “if I’m not back by 2am stay at your grandfathers house until I do”.

Again,  a  statement  that  had  come  at  the  same  time  every  day  since  Alexandria  was  young.  However,  just  because  she’d  been  hearing  it,  since,  umm....  forever,  didn’t  mean  she  wasn’t  going  to  start  protesting.

“WHAT! You’ve got to be kidding me I’m completely capable of taking care of myself I don’t need his help” said Alex pointing in the vicinity of the kitchen where her grandfather was at that point in time.

“I don’t need this right now Alex, you will obey me on this”, Stephanie said through gritted teeth, fingering the sides of her forehead “even if he has to drag you from the house. Right dad!”

“Yes sir” her father said pokeing his head through the doorway of the kitchen with a mock salute.

Stephenie grimaced and walked out of the room; practically slammed the door on her way out. Alexandria checked to see that her mother was gone, before she came back into the room and toppled over with laughter until her sides hurt.  It  happened  everytime,  her  grandfather  was  actually  able  to  mouth  the  words  as  her  mother  said  them!
