Kelsey's POV:
I walked down the long hall to the bathroom to start my morning "routine." I wouldn't necessarily say it's anything out of the ordinary, just like everything else. Green Lake has never been an interesting place to live. Every day starts out the same, especially in the summer.
I wake up around 8 am, walk down the hall to shower, get dressed into shorts and a t shirt, eat breakfast, and then usually go outside and hang out with my best friend, Leah.
That's just how this town is. There's one school, two neighborhoods, one small shopping center, and a huge forest. I don't like talking about the forest. No one really does. We all stay in Green Lake because of it. Mainly because of what happened to my dad, the old sheriff... Anyway. The town has always been peaceful though, except for that of course, but it was 10 years ago.
Same old, same old. I've never used to hate it, it was always kind of nice not having to worry about change. But ever since I turned 16, I've been craving for something interesting to happen, and of course, it never does.
There is this one guy. He keeps my life interesting. His name is Lucas. He has these cute dimples and green eyes and ugh. I just really wish I knew how he feels. He and I have been pretty close for a while and that almost scares me. I don't know if I'll ever get out of the friend zone. But that's nothing really interesting. Once I do, well, if I do, then my life will be way more interesting.
Moving on, my family life is pretty average too, I mean what isn't average here? My mom is great, she's supportive and anything I could ask for in a mom. I'm the middle of 3 kids. My oldest sister, Mia, is 19 going on 20. Mia wants the get out of here so badly, she's had the same craving I have for much much longer. She's also very curious about what those woods did to my father. She was 9 years old at the time and remembers it like it was yesterday. She wants to go into the forest, unlike Tommy. My youngest brother, Tommy, just turned 11. He's scared to death of what could be in there. Every night he has his windows closed and locked tight, with his shades and curtains drawn. That's really unlikely for a person to do here, usually people don't even lock their front doors. Tommy's window faces the woods. He claims he doesn't want them to "eat him" like they did to dad. It always sends chills up my spine when he says that. But he is a normal kid, just with a fear of the scariest forest known to man! I don't blame him.
But that's pretty much it. Life here is easy, normal, and quiet. It's almost a little ... mysterious.
