Part 5
I was flicking through music channels, on my fifth glass of wine, completely bored when my phone rang. ‘Hello?’ I answered sleepily.
‘Hi gorgeous.’
I almost choked on a mouthful of wine. ‘Cheryl! What are you doing up, it must be nearly 4am in LA!’
‘I’m going to bed in a minute. I wanted to say good night.’
‘How are you?’
‘Oh you know,’ she sighed. ‘enjoying the sun. Loving that nobody’s sticking a camera in me face every two minutes. Missing you.’
‘I miss you too.’ I sighed. ‘So, so much. When are you coming home?’
‘Soon, I promise. I just need some time out babe.’
‘I know. It’s just so hard I miss you so much.’ I could feel myself getting teary, but I didn’t want to cry down the phone to her.
‘I miss you more.’
‘Not possible.’
‘Are you still sky plussing Corrie for me?’
I laughed at that. ‘Of course you nutter. You won’t believe what’s going on with Sophie and Sian…’
‘Oh My God, what?! Tell me!’
‘No way.’
‘You’re so cruel.’ Cheryl huffed.
‘Come home and you’ll soon find out.’
‘Like I said, I’ll be back soon.’
‘When’s soon?’ I said, feeling a bit annoyed. ‘I can’t take this much more…’
‘What do you mean?’ Cheryl sounded worried.
‘Nothing. Never mind. You better go to bed I’m sure you’ve got a very busy day lying in the sun ahead of you tomorrow.’
‘Don’t be funny. What did you mean?’
‘I didn’t mean anything.’
‘You do this every time we’re on the phone!’ Cheryl moaned. ‘What’s going on with you?’
‘Oh, like you care.’ I shot at her, and I hung up. I poured another glass of wine and ignored the phone when it started ringing again. I started flicking through the TV again. The phone rang another six times while I watch watching old episodes of Sex and the City. Ironically some of the episodes where Samantha has a girlfriend. My phone pinged as a text came through and I automatically picked it up to read. Of course, it was from Cheryl.
I’m not going 2 sleep till u answer the fone. I’m worried about u x
I chose not to reply. Twenty minutes later I got another text.
u know what LA can b dangerous. Might take a late nite walk anything could happen…..
I speed dialled Cheryl’s number straight away. She answered on the second ring. ‘Knew that would get you’re attention.’ She said coolly.
‘Don’t you ever do that again.’
‘Kimba, I ju--’
‘Do you think that’s funny?’ I shouted. ‘Using how much I care about you to threaten me?’
‘You’re speaking to me aren’t you?’
‘Only to tell you how fcuking stupid you are.’ I could feel myself getting upset, knew I’d be crying in seconds.
