Two

I decided not to go back to lunch. I still wanted to at least peek at the new inventory. When I turned the corner I saw Tommy leaning against the door frame of the inventory room which meant he was on patrol for it. A smile lit up inside me because whenever Tommy is on patrol he tells me everything about the guns and serums stored in the room. The serums are my favorite; You can't talk or even beat the truth out of some people but you always have the serum.

He sees me and stands up off the wall, a smirk spread across the left side of his face.

"Im guessing you've heard about the new inventory?" He said scanning his pass and moving to the side for me as the doors slid open with a hand out in front of him.

"I have but I didn't think it was this much." I said stepping in.

Looking from the outside in Id probably look like a kid walking into a candy store. I imagine this is how Tommy was when he first saw it too. Usually we only get a few new guns and accessories and maybe two new serums tops but this was more new inventory then past couple months combind.

"We've really hit the jack pot now!" I said sliding through the options of guns displayed on the screen. "What is all this?" I asked.

"This my friend is the Specialized Reboot Association Inventory."
I spin around and tilt my head at him with an eyebrow raised.

"SRAI for short." He walks up next to me and starts scrolling. "All these new serums and weapons are specialized based on reboot rank groups. So of course the lower you are the more basic they get. For example, this here RK-2 is a basic shot gun except it has a few tweaks that increases your chances of actually hitting your target head on and without feeling the effects right away which is good for lower ranks because sometimes whatever human impulse left in them not to shoot the innocent can take over and the mission won't be completed."

"Got it." I said nodding. "What's this?" I asked scrolling to a bright yellow serum.

"I wasn't gonna forget to mention this to you" he said laughing "This is the Undergo Serum. Anyone whose injected with 4 ml of this will do or say whatever comes next. They didn't tell us what we'll be using them for but I assume its nothing good."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Nothing really, I've just been hearing things around about Tavin planning to expand to the east and some authorities think it's not a good idea that's all." He said shutting down the inventory screen.

"Do you think all of this could be for when we- he goes out east?" I asked cursing at myself under my breath.

"I don't see why else we would need so much more inventory. It's gonna be hell on earth for me to teach everyone how to use all this but that's my job right?" He said throwing up his hands.

I nodded. "Tommy.." He's gonna find out eventually Im going on that mission and he's field smart. It's not gonna be easy but I might as well bring him along. "Tavin asked me to help him expand to the east and he allowed me to bring three recruits and I really think it would help if you came." I pleaded.

"No." His face turned hard and his jaw clenched. "I haven't been going on his personal assignment missions and I won't start now." He says pushing past me. I knew he wasn't gonna accept it right away. "Everyone thinks if you get assigned by him your special but your not and you know that. You've been signed up to do his dirty work."

"Yeah but this is different. We might be able to stop him from expanding. We could help!" I said as I stepped in front of him.

"Jamie and Tristian died from going on his "special missions" Tana, are you forgetting that. He kills the innocents and makes the rest into bots like us. I'm not doing it." He said waving me out of the door.

"Well just think about it, about the few lives we could possibly spare if you go. And Tommy I need-" My com buzzed signaling that lunch was over and I need to head back to my station.

"Just think about it." I said as I turned and jogged down the hallway back toward the lunch room.

I caught up to Zoe and our other friend Cara as they were leaving the cafe. They stopped to wait for me to catch up.

"Hey where's Jayden?" I asked them as I slowed to a walk.

"I don't know, after you left he said he was going to go get something from his block and he never came back." Zoe said.

"I bet he went and beat up Maya's boyfriend at his work station and got in trouble again." Cara said.

We all laughed. Maya is Jayden's younger sister. It's rare that you'd be sent to the same facility as your siblings but I'm glad they are here together, everyone is. It reminds us that we all got others back at the end of the day.
