I looked in the mirror the day I was going to leave the hospital. I had my long auburn colored wavy hair up in a ponytail. I had the same pale blue eyes as Aunt Carol. I was wearing a grey cropped sweatshirt, dark denim shorts, and mint green vans.
I was pretty much fully healed from the car crash, besides the amnesia. I did have some small bruises. Some of them were caused by my horrible clumsiness.
Aunt Carol walked in the room and smiled. It was time to leave. I smiled and grabbed a small bag that the doctors had given me. It contained a set of clothes and some other minor necessities.
We walked out of hospital and into Carol's car.
"So, Rowan! I was thinking of dropping the stuff you have at my house then going shopping. Since all of the stuff you brought with you got ruined in the car crash." She says as she starts up the car.
My head begins to sting at the mention of the crash, but I try to hide it. "Sounds good!" I say.
Carol drives to her house, which is a private beach house away from the city. When we arrive I have to take a moment to take in how beautiful it is and it's scenery.
I notice a girl standing on the front porch waving at us. The first thing I notice about her is her bright electric blue streak in her dark curly hair.
As we approached her a dog came running out of the house and came running straight for me. It was a blur of orange and white before it jumped on me.
I landed hard on the ground, but luckily enough I caught myself before my head could hit the ground. The dog started licking my face like mad and the girl was laughing as she came walking towards us.
"Oh, Athena! Get off of Rowan!" Carol tries to shoo the dog, Athena, off of me. "Faye! Get your novia scotch dock retriever off of Rowan!"
"Mom, Athena is a nova scotia duck tolling retriever." The girl, Faye, said to Carol. She then turned to Athena. "Come here Athena! Come on!"
Athena finally got off of me and went over to Faye for a good petting. "Sorry, Rowan. Mom told me you lost your memory so you probably don't remember me at all, which is a shame. Anyway, I'm your cousin, Faye. My mom is your aunt."
The girl, Faye, was wearing a black tank top with a silver cross necklace and denim shorts with lace on the trim. She was wearing a pair of ocean blue high top converse. Her hair was up in a messy ponytail.
I looked between the two, mother and daughter. They looked absolutely nothing alike. Faye had long dark thick curly hair. Carol had short grey streaked light brown hair. Faye also had electric blue eyes compared to Carol's pale blue eyes.
"OK, Faye." I smile and get up. "So, why did Athena come running to me?" I ask.
"Oh, Athena absolutely loves you. You were the one who rescued her from being attacked by a pack of angry dogs. Your family couldn't keep her so you gave her to us." Faye explains.
"Thank you." I laugh awkwardly.
"Hey Faye, I'm taking Rowan to go shopping. Want to come?" offers Carol.
"Ok, sounds fun!" She laughs.
We walk into the house and Carol shows me to my room. It was absolutely gorgeous.
The bed was against a completely wooden wall. There were a couple of old surf boards on the wall. The opposite wall was mostly glass windows besides one bit. It was also wooden but you couldn't really see the wood with how many pictures were on it of beautiful sceneries. The bedspread had a white background with a light grey design in the foreground. All of the pillows were grey.on the nightstands, there were beautiful flowers in a glass vase. Each of the flowers were magenta.
The best part was the view. It was mostly forest until the forest met the coast and the trees stop. You can see some beautiful white sand before you see the beautiful blue ocean.
I set the bag on my bed and step out of the room. I'll have more time to explore it later. I walk back outside and to the car where Faye was waiting for us.
"Let's go already!" She says to us as we are walking out of the door. I start running to the car and Athena barks after me as she gets locked in the house.
"OK, ok." Carol replies as she walks down the steps if the porch and makes her way to the car.
Faye jumps in the back seat and I get in the back too. Carol gets in the driver's seat and starts driving.
"I'll help you pick out clothes. It'll be much faster with both of us picking. Don't worry, I know your style." Faye says as we drive there.
"OK, thanks Faye!" I reply happily.
Faye and I continue to chat until we get to the mall. The mall was this huge white building with decent landscaping. The parking lot was huge and full of cars. The sign was colorful, but in a way that way displeasing to the eye.
Maybe inside would be better.
Not even a half step inside and I realized that there would be a lot of people. I started to not like this idea. Faye dragged me to a clothes store and started looking for clothes. I was still in a state of half shock.
"Here! I think you would look cute in this!" Or "Rowan! You have you get this! Try it on! Make sure it's perfect!" Was about the only words I heard that came from her mouth. We got a couple swimsuits and a whole bunch of other outfits. It didn't really get interesting for me until Faye dragged me to an electronics store.
"Did you see all those beautiful photos up on the wall of your room?" Asked Faye.
"Uhhh, yeah. Why?" I replied. I wasn't expecting her answer.
"You took all of those. It was when I was living all the way over in America." She states confidently.
I had taken those? No way! They were so beautiful! I had that skill, I guess. I'm trusting her on this one.
Faye walked over to the camera sections and took a picture of a camera with her smartphone. I was told I had one, but it was broken in the car crash.
She takes one of the cameras, a really fancy looking one, and brings it to the checkout counter. "I would like to buy this- Hey, Austin!" Faye says to the guy working at the checkout counter.
"Faye! What's up?" He scans the camera. I see the price come up.
"Woah, what? No! Faye you are not buying a camera that costs 814 dollars!" I exclaim.
"Rowan, calm down my mom's paying for it. Oh, and Austin. I'm doing fine see you tomorrow to surf? I'll properly introduce you to my cousin." She pays for the camera with a credit card. She takes the camera and me and begins to walk away.
"See you then!" He calls after her. I look back and he looks like he's in a trance staring at her.
"He so likes you." I say to Faye. She rolls her eyes jokingly.
"We are best friends after all." She laughs. I don't even know this guy but I think they would be a cute couple.
I start laughing. Maybe it was because I was tired from such an exhausting shopping trip.
"There you two are!" Carol says as she walks up to us. She has a couple bags too. "Let's go home."
