I arrive home shortly after 3:50 PM. I strip off my winter clothes and boots and see my twin sister Spook and her best friend Shelly sitting at the dining table looking through a magazine, debating if Logan Lerman or Zac Efron should be the new spiderman. There is a wonderful cooking smell in the air so I head to the kitchen and see my pregnant stepmom Jennifer Jean looking through flyers at the kitchen counter.
"Hey JoJo." I say.
If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm one for the nicknames. I call my sister Spook because she always scares me. Her real name is Sami. I call my step mom JoJo because she told me a story about how when she was a little girl, her baby sister Jasmin Joan took the nickname JJ, and she called Jennifer Jean JoJo. I think it's cute. And of course, Ben the Bean.
"How are you doing?" I ask her.
"Oh, it's been a wonderful day. Your father and I went to the hospital as you already know. These buns will be coming out of the oven in about a month!" She says looking at her stomach with a large grin on her face.
"Wow that's great JoJo!" I say. She's having triplets.... again. Then she wants more kids. I secretly believe some part of her is crazy.
My dad, John Kirsten (I go by my mother's maiden name) married JoJo when Spook and I were only three. Our birth mother Daniella was an alcoholic, and didn't take care of us. JoJo and Dad took full custody of us when ten months after they got married, because Daniella died of lung cancer. She'd been smoking since she was fourteen. At first, I loved Daniella more than JoJo. I mean, I was only three. I thought everyone else's mother was like mine. But once I'd realized that my mother was a rotten egg, I warmed up to JoJo immediately.
JoJo already had a daughter when my parents married. Her name is Annie. I call her Auntie Annie. She's twenty five now. She moved out quite a long time ago, but since my dad and JoJo married, they've had six children together.
The first triplets are Bryn, Brittany and Breanna. They're ten.
HER first twins are six. Their names are Emma and EJ (stands for Estella Jane).
And the only child who was born without a partner or two after Auntie Annie, is Hailey. Hailey is four, and is such a brat. She talks all the time, sometimes puts water in my bed when my friends are over to make it look like I wet my bed, and one time, she brought out my stuffed pig that I used to sleep with when my friends were at my house for a Christmas party. And David was there! Yup, she's a brat for sure, but she's a cutie.
"So," JoJo starts. "That school dance is tonight right?"
I sigh. "Yeah. But can we please just not talk about it? Everyone in the entire school is going but me."
"Well if we don't talk about it, then I can't tell you that you can go." She says, a devilish smile on her face.
"WHAT!?" I yell. "YES! But wait, how is that possible? We were supposed to be going to Brandon today. What happened?" I ask her.
"Well I got a call in the car coming home from the hospital. The ski lifts at the hills broke down last night, and they can't get a repair man in until Monday. They couldn't find any other places available on such short notice, so they'll have to reschedule." She tells me.
"OH YES!!" I yell. I run to my room and pick up my Blackberry Curve. I dial Clarissa's number. This is going to be great.
