  John Egbert is from Homestuck

This was it. John's chance to tell you his feelings was finally here. What some view as nothing more than a study session was now a sink or swim situation. Would you reject his feelings? Lia told John he had absolutely no chance with a girl like you, but that didn't stop him for wanting to try.

Getting the courage to talk to you a bit a school, convincing you to come over and study. he realized now was his time to ask you out on a real date. The mere notion of dating you filled him with worry, wondering if he would be a good enough boyfriend. Or more importantly if you would even say 'yes'.

Shaking in his skin, he tried calming down before you arrived. However by the time the doorbell rang, he was still filled with anxieties. Nevertheless he opened the door, greeting you with a smile.

"H-hey (y/n). Glad you could make it!" John said, failing to hid his eagerness.

Grinning back at him, you walked into the Egbert household, "Of course! Im glad we could do this! I could use some help on (y/worst subject) ... Your so smart, Im sure you'll be able to help!" Though you didn't think twice about this comment, your words rang around John's head. If he wasn't already nervous, now he was undeniably tense, concerned that he would disappoint you or mess something up.

Leading you into the living room, he watched you wobble a bit as you walked, carrying a hefty backpack. Its contents were obviously filled with ridiculously heavy books, putting a strain in your back.

Without thinking, John insisted "Oh here! Ive got it-" Lifting the bag off your shoulder, the bag immediately collided with the ground. Nimble arms already wearisome, he struggled to lug the backpack over to the coffee table. With great effort, he lifted it onto the small table, huffing upon dropping it. Just how did you manage to carry that thing? Originally, he had hoped to show off his 'muscles' , but hadn't realize just how lacking he was in that area he was in that area of physical qualities.

Giggling a bit at his struggle, he panicked, through your laughter wasn't aimed at making him feel self-conscious. If anything, it was supposed to show him that you were having a good time, despite this get-together being for studying. Yet, he didn't interpret it that way. Instead, he panicked even more, forcing himself to keep these worries hidden from you.

Perhaps he could woo you with his knowledge? Yes, you had mentioned something about him being smart, hadn't you? Now it was time to prove it!

With his lanky arms, he lifted some of his own books onto his lap, letting them plop down with a 'thud', "Alright... You needed help with (y/worst subject), right?"

Things were not going as planned. Even though you claimed this was your worst subject, John had insisted, that he learn from you not vice-versa. Not that it was bad for you to be smart, but how was he supposed to impress you? To him you were flawless. And here he was, trying his best to look somewhat  confident and not geeky in any way.

Of course, as conversations emerged, his aim was to hide inner nerd was unsuccessful. Somehow, in the midst of studying, you casually asked "So..... What type of movies do you like?" He froze remembering what Dave had said about not being himself, because it would it would act as 'chick repellant'. Perhaps going to Dave for advice prior to you coming over was not the best thing to do. If anything, it only made him more nervous and on edge.

Reeling his brain for an answer other than Nicolas Cage movies he puttered out, "O-oh.... I don't know... Stuff, I guess..."

Brows furrowed, you continued to pry, "Oh, Im sure you have at least one favorite movie. Come on, I won't judge!" Giving him a comforting smile, he was tempted to blurt out his answer. Despite your insistence, he still tried to coerce himself against that terrible mistake.

Don't say 'Ghostbuster', don't say 'Con Air'.

Don't say 'Ghostbuster', don't say 'Con Air'.

"I-I really like Ghostbusters and Con Air-"

                 Shit!

Thinking for a moment, you pondered your opinion on his movie tastes. Staring at you with apprehension in his eyes, he immediately regretted opening his mouth.

"Well... I don't know about Con Air... Ive never seen it..."

John secretly hitched his breath. Im screwed, Im screwed! She thinks Im a total loser!

"Buut I am a fan of Ghostbusters! Its a classic!" Audibly sighing in a breath of relief, he momentarily had to make a double-take on your answer. Wait...... She..... she likes Ghostbusters.....?

It was a phenomena to him. Never had he read you as the type of girl to enjoy a movie such as that. This new world fact only made him like you more, resulting in even more nerves bubbling up inside of him.

Again failing to think before speaking, he questioned "O-oh really? Well.... Would you want to take a break from studying to watch it....?

Leaning back on the couch, you let you're book slap shut, placing it to the side, "Duh Id take Ghostbusters over (y/worst subject) any day!"

Breathing a content sigh, you allowed yourself to relax a bit as John scrambled ti find his copy of Ghostbusters, still unable to believe that he and you had more in common than expected, he was, to say the least, ecstatic. This crush on you had been budding for who knows how long, and now, he was finally able to talk to you get to know you more.  Now, he was finally able to talk to you, get to know you more. Now, he was more than happy to see you where so  down-to-earth and, honestly easy to talk to. If only his flustered nature would subside so he could properly speak to you without stuttering.

Returning from his cluttered room with his copy of Ghostbusters, he almost expected you to be gone, as if this was a dream, but there you were waiting patiently to watch one of your favorite movies. Placing the movie into the DVD player, the tittle screen popped up after skipping through what seemed like an endless amount of commercials. Eventually the familiar beginning scene of Ghostbusters started to playing. Sitting in silence the two of you watched, sitting quite a bit of distance away from each other.

Occasionally making comments to each other throughout the movie was one of the best parts, in John's opinion laughter rang out from the both of you, causing John to snort a bit, his buck teeth revealing himself.

Covering his mouth immediately after, this only caused you to laugh even more, claiming "John that is the most adorable laugh, Ive ever heard!" Gazing at you in skepticism, John couldn't believe you found what he considered one of the most uncool, geeky laughs of the century cute. Did... Did you really like him for who he was...? Maybe Dave, the king of cool was wrong? Maybe being himself was the only way this would work.....

Taking a deep breath, he gathered up all of his courage, starting to pose the big question. "Erm... (y/n) ....?" Giggling ceasing, your attention moved onto him. locking (eye/color) eyes with John's. "I was wondering if.... um... I don't know.... Would you maybe... want to....go on a date with me....? You know... Forget I said anything...!" Burying his face in his hands in embarrassment, he dreaded the long silence that would follow his inquiry.

Sooner than expected though you responded, "Well... Of course I would, John! Sounds fun!" Chucking a bit at his mortification, you moved his hands away from his face, "You don't have to be so embarrassed about it. Also you don't have to try and act so hard to be cool. Admittedly I like you for you. Geekiness and all! You're a great guy, John. Going on a date sounds wonderful...!

These words came as a shock to John. Everything Dave had told him was a lie. Instead of feeling upset about this fact, he beamed in victory, unable to wait to rub it in his face.

He got the girl.... The geek, such as himself right, got the girl....

"Does Saturday sound alright? Im free all day, so if you wanna pick a movie for us to watch..." Perking up at your statement, he profusely nodded his head, practically in a trance.

Needless to say that later, when he would mention this whole study session to Dave, he wouldn't believe that John had managed to 'score a date' with you whilst being his usual, nerdy self.
