The door closes slowly with a creeping clank. I huff as I pull my bag over my shoulder and a cloud of cold smoke emerges from my lips. Michigan weather has never been kind, but living here all your life gets you used to the snow's wrath. My cheeks snuggle close to my scarf trying to avoid any possible connection to the wind. While avoiding ice patches on the cement I unlock my car with my other hand. The keys swing eagerly in my hand due to the cold force. I crouch down inside the small car and start the engine. Fumes swirl from the back and can be seen through the rear view mirror.

Hearing the faint strum of guitar from my speakers, I turn up the volume and begin to back up from the driveway. I hum along to the melody, I would've sang if I knew the words. The small bobble head cat on my dashboard jolts to the bumps on the road, almost appearing to dance to the beat. Outside the storm rages on, a snowstorm for the second day in a row. I swerve onto the expressway, I peer at the sign reading 'speed limit 75'. Giggling under my breath I push the gas pedal to a good eighty. I know speeding and snowstorm don't mix well, but lately I've got less to lose.

Focusing on the road ahead I'm startled hearing a honk. In the next lane to my right is an older car it's black paint reflects a bit of the lights hanging on either side of the road. The man driving smirks and tilts his head up in my direction. With the snow cascading down it's difficult to see his features. However I could care less, flirting on the highway? Seriously? The car lets out another loud beep and I can't help but roll my eyes. Attempting to get away from his car I speed up further. He seems to think this is a game and drives up closer. At this point we're going about nighty a mile. Luckily, I see my exit and pull over.

Traffic increases from here and i haven't seen the creep for awhile. I absolutely hate flirting, it gets me all flustered. In my opinion the worst kind is from strangers. The flashing sign of 'Max's' guides me to my parking spot. Before leaving my seat and entering, I collapse my face into the palms of my hands. I look up and see my sleepless eyes in the mirror, I debate for a second with myself if I should go inside. After telling myself i have nothing better to do I sluggishly leave the vehicle. I double click the button on my keys to lock my car and turn around. The snow is dropping slower than earlier and I take a moment to watch. Snowflakes cling to the tips of my eyelashes and my teeth chatter at the embrace of wind at my back.

Headlights from behind me cast my shadow on the wall. Over my shoulder I glance at the familiar black car. I swear if they're following me, I run my fingers through my hair. I quickly enter the restaurant, it's a bit embarrassing to tell the hostess i'll be dining alone. However I suck it up and the perky woman leads me to a seat. The restaurant is designed with large neon lights along the corners of the room. The lights vibrant colors glow over the tables and wooden floor. And all around the bar table are giant screens playing hockey games.

The door opens and two attractive men walk inside wiping the snow from their jackets. Right when the door clicks back into place a puck is flung into the hockey net on the TV, all the men watching abruptly cheer at the point. Panicking, I fumble open a menu and hide my face inside. Both of them walk past and make their way to the bar. While they're far enough away I catch another glimpse. They're younger than i expected them to be. And with jackets that thin I don't know how they didn't freeze in that storm.

A waitress walks over with a tight t-shirt that spells out 'Max's' in bold letters. Like most of the waitresses her hair is teased up extra high and pulled into a ponytail.

She pulls out her small notepad while wearing a friendly smile and says, "Anything special to drink sweetheart. We've got great cocktails half off and-"

"No water's just fine." She frowns a bit but resumes smiling."I'll have a slice of chocolate cake please, it's all i'll be having." I order and she makes her way back to the kitchen.
