**Fairlight’s POV**
Things are pretty much back to how they were before George came up with the failed plan of making the others jealous. I sit by myself in class and at lunch while George sits and looks awkward and out of place. To be fair, he did try to sit with me, but… Well, I didn’t let him. We’re nearing the end of school, it’s snowing and my bags are packed.
“He’s soo hot!” Alicia sighs, sitting down opposite me with Angelina. I glance at her.
“Tell him you like him,” Angelina presses her, “ask him to the ball!”
“He’d never go out with me!” Alicia replies, “he likes…”
I feel their eyes boring into my skull and look up.
“I’m not going to be here,” I tell them, “so just ask him. He needs a partner.”
I collect my books and walk out, feeling angry. I don’t know why I told Alicia to ask George to the ball. She’s a complete airhead!
**George’s POV**
“We can do the whole matching tie thing,” Ana giggles, “I can’t wait!”
“Only a week to go!” Velvet agrees happily.
I try not to roll my eyes. In my opinion, the girls, not just these two, but every girl in the castle, have gone nuts. They’re all obsessed with the ball, what they’re wearing, who’s going with who… It’s starting to annoy me. Although, to be honest, it probably wouldn’t if I had a partner.
“Hey, George?”
“Hey, Alicia,” I mutter absent mindedly, thinking once again of a plan to get Fairlight to stay. They’re getting more and more insane.
“Can I talk to you for a minute?” Alicia asks. I jump slightly, having thought she’d walked away. Obligingly, I stand up and walk a few feet away. Alicia is looking up at me, her face rather pink.
“Would you… Do you want to…” she blushes deeply, “I mean, if you’re not already…”
I wait for her to get her thoughts together.
“Will you go to the ball with me?” she gasps out finally. I sigh a little. I might as well go with Alicia, since Fairlight won’t be here.
“I wish I had someone who… Someone who just wants me…”
“No, sorry,” I tell her, “I don’t want to go with anyone but Fairlight.”
“She won’t even be here!” Alicia protests, “she was the one who told me to ask you!”
“She what?” I ask, my heart shattering into a million pieces. I push past Alicia and run all the way up to Gryffindor tower. Fairlight is alone in the common room, drawing on a scrap piece of paper.
“Did you tell Alicia to ask me out?” I demand, stopping right in front of her. She doesn’t bat an eyelid.
“Yeah, I did,” she replies, getting up and picking up her things, “I hope you two have a great time together. I’m leaving tomorrow.”
I feel my mouth fall open and I can’t say anything as she walks up the dormitory stairs and out of sight.
