**Fairlight's POV**
"Back again."
"Back to being treated like freaks."
"And being tortured by those three."
I look over at my sisters. They're both looking apprehensively at the scarlet engine in front of us.
Even though I'm only the oldest by about five minutes, I'm always seen to be the leader, the protector, and sadly, I do have to protect them.
"Come on," I tell them as cheerfully as I can, "before we have to sit with first years again."
We climb aboard and find an empty compartment.
"Fair," Velvet says, nodding towards the window. I look out and see a family with flaming red hair. I feel my muscles tense up as the two identical boys say goodbye to their parents.
"Duck," I mutter. We duck down so they won't see us through the window.
"George! I see them!" Fred cries, motioning to our window. I groan and lean my head against the wall.
"Let's move," I sigh.
We collect our stuff and head down the train. We find another empty compartment on the other side of the train and settle in there.
"Why us?!" Anastasia explodes, "why do they do this? What did we ever do to them?!"
I reach over and take her hand.
"You know why," I say softly. She looks at me from under her hair.
"It's not fair," she whispers. I nod in agreement.
"It can't be worse than last year," Velvet comments, "what with... Well, you know."
A tear rolls down Ana's cheek. I'm the leader and she's the baby. Vel and I are both protective of her. Velvet not so much, but I'd fight to the death for her.
"I need the bathroom," Anastasia sniffs, standing up. Velvet and I exchange a look as she walks out.
"She's too sensitive," I comment. Velvet nods.
"I get where she's coming from, though," she says, "it's scary, coming back here. Not knowing what they're planning."
"We can't let it get to us," I tell her firmly. She gives me a small smile and shakes her head slightly.
"We're not all like you, Fair," she replies gently, "we're not all made of stone."
"I'm not made of stone," I retort, "I'm made of ice."
"Ice is breakable."
I smile at Velvet.
"True, I'm made of stone," I laugh.
"Hey guys, I picked up some strays," Anastasia says cheerfully, walking in, followed by a girl with bushy brown hair.
"She wants to sit with us," Ana says, seeming thrilled. The girl smiles at us.
"If that's alright," she adds gently. I smooth my hair down over my eye and look at her.
"You're not scared of us?" I ask. She shakes her head. I glance at Velvet who shrugs.
