As Hermione woke up the day after her 18th birthday party , her excitement for the days events flooded through her. The 7th years were asked to come back to Hogwarts to repeat the year that was interrupted (and never finished) to due the war. Students were informed that houses, quidditch teams, schedules, and prefects were all the same. This was the day the year would start.

"Honey, could you come down for a sec?" Her thoughts were interrupted by her mother.

"Sure let me put my transfiguration book away mum."

"What dear I don't know what that is?"

"It's from Hogwarts mum."

"Okay dear."

Since the war and Voldemorts fall, Hermione had no worries about her families safety so she tracked them in Australia and fixed their memories the best she could (which was already thought to be impossible). They had then moved back home.

(Hermiones POV)

I walked downstairs to be greeted by my mum and she said she had something to tell me. Thoughts raced through my brain trying to figure out what it was.

"Honey, you were adopted."

"What! FROM WHO!?" I practically screeched. After eighteen years, my entire world crashed down, crumbling at my feet.

"I wasn't allowed the name, but I know is she is a half blood Veela, is that how you say it?"

"Mum, I may have misheard you. Did you just say I'm a Veela?" I said, terror trembling in my voice as my eyes started to water. My heartbeat like a battledrum.

"Yes dear, I assume you know what it is?"

"Yes, I do mum, and it's more unwelcome than muggles or half bloods in the wizarding world." I said worried for my and my parents safety once more.

I ran up to my room and understood the fuzzy feeling in my stomach when I woke up, I'm 18, that's when veela blood starts its year long course. If I don't find my mate my by 19th birthday, I will die a horrible, painful, slow death. I grabbed one of my books on veelas and flipped through the pages until I found what I was looking for.

When the veela blood cycle starts on the veelas 18th birthday, they must find their mate by the day of their 19th birthday. If not, the blood turns poisonous and the veela will die a slow, painful death. And the mate, will either die a slow death, or will have a new mate but it will not have the same effects as its true mate.

When the veela is near its mate, it will have a strong buzzing feeling in the stomach. Other wise the veela will feel a little off but will function properly.

I went to Ron's house to tell him the news and his only question about the whole thing was:

"Well, am I your mate?"

I angrily explained once again that the veelas only true mate is another veela, he never listens to me, and Ron was not a veela, so he can't be my mate. He quickly grabbed his bags and didn't say a word on the way to Kings Cross.

As we boarded the train, I got an annoying buzz in my stomach but then I remembered

When the veela is near its mate, it will have a strong buzzing feeling in the stomach.

I looked around and as I laid eyes on every person near me, I looked at one which made my stomach buzz like a swarm of bees. I know that sounds cliché but it's true.

Crap! But no way Draco was my mate, he never told me he was veela (Even though we rarely spoke besides insults, I doubt he would tell anyone due the hate Veelas get). And even if he was, I love Ron, not Draco. But I also don't want to die. I spent seven years almost doing that and I'm not starting again.
