Flight

Falling, I did the only thing I knew would get me away. Far away.

Through my already torn shirt, they snapped open. At first like blank white canvases, spreading outwards, white feathers shaped themselves across my back and out.

They kept growing, spanning just about 20 feet.

"Magnificent" I remembered some one telling me, I just couldn't remember who.

Recently I couldn't remember anything from before I started running. It was like all memories ran in the opposite direction from which I ran the day the Tracker appeared.

Although sometimes I just knew things on instinct but aside from this... nothing.

My stomach clenched, my heart pounding. In the few seconds of falling, my wings appeared: massive and as light as well...feathers.

I was some feet from slamming into the water when my black-tipped white wings flapped powerfully, propelling me upward and foward, away from the Tracker who, upon looking back, was frozen on the edge of the cliff.

Letting out a triumphant shout (just to rub it in that I won and he lost) I flew off into the sunset quite content with my achievement

That is, of course, as cruel as fate was, Tracker(he needs a name) suddenly decides to use his gun. One powerful, lethal shot that can bring down adult elephants, or whales or any powerful creature for that matter.

How do I know?

He was a Tracker but he sucked at being one. One time I "disappeared" so he gave up and rested. Using secret methods(rope) I stole his gun. It was the only thing he had on him strangely. But unfortunately one thing was for sure: he had to get rid of me. My name was engraved in the bullet-dart (quite beautifully I might add), with his number (I assumed) etched into the gun...is there anything else 00099 could mean?

So as I said, he used his gun (maybe I could call him Jack...fitting). The shot rang through my ears, echoing all around.

Startled, I wasn't even able to note the pain shooting up my muddy pant leg until I reached down and felt a sticky substance in the thigh region.

Bringing my hand into my line of sight, my brain finally registered the pain (delayed reaction) and I twisted painfully sideways, heading towards some unknown place in an attempt to land before my already fading consciousness.

My thigh throbbed. I felt the pain coursing through me, making my entire leg throb painfully. The feeling emnating from just that one spot.

Too late, darkness overtook my eyesight. I blacked out, plummeting downwards.

Oh the blissful escape of unconsciousness, if only it would never end.
