Lincoln and I spent that day hiding out in Adria and Jonathan's apartment. After seeing my brother the way he was, I didn't leave his side. He fell asleep beside me, still holding my hand.
I stroked his dark hair across his forehead absentmindedly as my mind finally caught up with what was happening. Could his condition be a result of the Antipode? What even was it?
I leaned my head back against the wall, gazing at the ceiling in the dim light.
"Holding up okay?" Adria asked, sitting beside me.
"As well as I can," I muttered. She smiled a little, stretching her legs out in front of her. Lincoln was nibbling on some food Adria had provided us, lost in his own thoughts.
"How did you find Jonathan?" I asked suddenly. She swallowed, her face quickly falling into a solemn expression.
"He found me," she started. "He took me to his apartment, which was across town, but still the same as this one."
"What happened to him?" I pressed, regretting the words as soon as I said them.
I was afraid to hear the answer. She didn't respond for a couple moments, her lips pressed into a thin line.
"There was another guy he found right before me. His name was Seth or Stefen. Something like that."
My eyes grew wide, but I said nothing. Jonathan stirred beside me, and I continued to stroke his hair. Lincoln's attention was now on us.
"He was running from the authorities I suppose. A couple days after I was there, I was coming home from work and saw our apartment surrounded. I waited and hid, afraid that I would be accused of something. They dragged Jonathan and Seth out of the building and took them away while I... I did nothing."
Tears shone in her eyes. The guilt was evident on her face.
"A couple months ago, they released Jonathan. Just dropped him off at the former apartment. I checked it everyday after I found somewhere else to live, hoping for something.
"I found him trapped inside his own mind. You saw. But it was worse, much worse. I could hardly do anything to help him distinguish what was real and what wasn't. The only way I could help him was by talking to him and holding him. Human contact seems to be the only remedy to his insanity."
"Have you heard anything about the boy?" Lincoln asked hopefully.
"Nothing. I try to look for him, too, but nothing. He mentioned you," she stated, looking at me.
"I did know him," I said, swallowing past the lump in my throat.
"How?" Lincoln and Adria asked at the same time.
I looked at Jonathan's peaceful state, then began my story.

I apologize for this short chapter. /: Annnnnnd that it wasn't very exciting, but there always has to be a calm before the storm.
SO MUCH IS GOING TO OCCUR I JUST WANNA TELL YOU EVERYTHING. But alas, that is the characters' job. (;
Anyway, hope you're having a great day! Thank you for being amazing, as usual! Stay cool with Jesus. <3
