"Teddy, you here?" I called out as I got in the door. "Yeah, I'm here." He said from the couch. "How you feelin'?" I asked. "Splendid. I have a 102 degree fever." He said and put an ice pack on his head. "Damn, that's not good." "Nope. But it sure beats having a fever while hiding in the woods." He said.
"How's Chris?" "He's okay. Everything between him and I is okay now, thankfully." I said. "That's good. I'm glad you worked it out. Now you're just gonna have to make up with Gordie." He said. "Ugh, You're probably right." I rolled my eyes. "But what if I try and apologise and he doesn't care?" "Well... What you did to him was pretty bad." Teddy said. "Don't start, Teddy. Please." I got up and went to our room, closing the door behind.
"Emily." Teddy came behind me. "I think you should apologize no matter what. Even if he doesn't except it or talk to you. It's the right thing to do and you know it." Teddy said. "Yeah, I know." I looked down. "I guess I'll go and do that now. You lay down and get some rest." I said and headed to Gordie's house.
I knocked on the door. Mrs. Lachance opened up. "Well, if it isn't Emily! How are you?" She asked. "I'm doing fine. Is Gordie home?" "Yeah, he's in his room. He's been kind of down lately, though. Maybe you can cheer him up." She said and let me in. "Uh, I doubt if I can do that right now. Thanks for letting me in." I said and went up the stairs.
I knocked on his door. "Go away." I heard, but opened his door anyway. "Didn't I just say g-" He sat up and saw me. "What're you doing here?" He asked. "I wanted to say that I'm sorry for what I said the other day. I didn't know what I was thinking... and I'm sorry for kissing you... even though I only meant it in the moment." I said.
Out of the blue, he turned over and screamed into his pillow. "I hate this whole thing." He said after. "Yeah, so do I." I said and sat on his bed. He rolled back over. "I'm pretty sure I made a girl feel the same way that you made me feel... i-in bad way." He said. "What do you mean?" "I um... I was out at the movies with Vern, and one of my friends from school met us there. We got talking and then out of nowhere I just kissed her. It felt right in the moment but then I thought about it... and it wasn't right. She's so upset with me and never wants to see me again." He groaned and rolled back over and pushed his head into his pillow.
"Why am I so fucking stupid?" He said. "Cause you're a typical guy." I joked. "No. You're an amazing guy, Gordie. I'm so lucky to have you as a friend. That was a learning experience as much for you as it was for me. Now, that doesn't make it right... but we learned from it and we can move on. And you know what? You can apologize to her the same way I just did. You can make your peace and do what is right. The rest is up to her." I said.
"oh, okay. I guess I'll do that at some point this week. Thanks, Em." We hugged.
