Chapter 9: The Blue Gem

I woke up the next morning to find out I was the only one awake. I slowly got up and walked around for a bit. After a while, I noticed that Paul was lying in his bed with his eyes open.

"Hello, Charlie." he said. "Hmm... I couldn't help but notice that necklace your Caterpie friend is wearing. Does he wear that all the time?" he asked. "Uh, yeah, I guess he does. Why?" I asked confusedly.

Paul looked concerned. "It's just that his necklace kind of looks like a blue gem I read about once." he said. "In the book it said that Lugia created a gem long ago that made him more powerful. Not sure how that works, but how could it still be around today?"

"So... Wait," I said, "what's going to happen to Caterpie?"

Paul sighed. "Well, I think that some idiot found part of it and decided to make it into a necklace or something." he said. "Whoever wears it is supposed to be corrupted or something... or maybe immortal. But if it exists... johto might be in trouble..."

He went over to his mailbox and checked for some mail. "Of course, that might not be it at all. I wouldn't worry about it." he said, taking some letters out of the mailbox. "Hold on... This is addressed to Charlie!? That's not possible..." Paul mumbled and gave it to me. "Read it." he said. So I read it. It said:

I know your secret. Come meet me at Tohjo Falls and I shall provide help for you.

sincerely, L.

Wait, who was this 'L', and why did he want to help me, and HOW did he know my secret!? "What does it say?" Paul asked. I read it out loud to him.

"That sounds quite odd, but if there is any help at all to be offered, you should take it." said Paul. "Your choice, though."

Should I trust this guy? He was offering help, so I should take it, right? I guess there were no other good plans...

"I guess we're heading for Tohjo Falls." I finally said. "Tohjo Falls?" I heard someone say behind me. I turned around to see Misdreavus floating there. She always woke up right after me! "Yeah, check this out." I said to her and gave her the letter. She read it quickly and gave it back. "L, huh? Sounds sketchy..." she said. "Yeah, but I have no other choice." I said back.

"Well I'll go make some breakfast. I'm hungry." said Paul, and he left for the kitchen. I thought about L and what could possibly happen at Tohjo Falls. Who was L, anyways? "Hey, Charlie?"

Misdreavus stared at me with confused eyes. "Yeah?" I said. She shook her head. "I... Never mind...." she said to me. I rolled my eyes. "No. Just spit it out already. Every time you're about to tell me something, either someone interrupts, or you just say 'never mind'."

Misdreavus looked in every direction. She was getting incredibly anxious. "I-I think I... I k-kinda... I... I really like you, Charlie... You're just such a... a great person to be around! I just think that I, well..." but at that moment, Paul came into the room holding plates with pancakes in them. "I dunno if you guys eat this, but it's all I have..." he said.

The smell of food seemed to be enough to wake the others up. Caterpie said it was the best thing he'd ever tasted and Kakuna said it was good. Misdreavus was very shy and deep in thought again at breakfast. When we were all done, we said our goodbyes to Paul and set off for Mahogany Town.

I didn't know what would happen there, or what would happen to us with Caterpie's necklace. I just hoped Misdreavus would be able to say what she needed to say. I don't know how, but I think I had some kind of crush on her, and she be the same with me.

Blargle blargle blargle, it's the afterword. Yay.

This was a very revealing chapter. So the Blue Shard comes from the Blue Gem, which is evil, to say the least.

And what about Charlie and Misdreavus? They seem to be bonding quite well, like great friends... or more than friends.

Again I will remind you about the Character Creation Contest, or CCC as I'm gonna call it from now on. Create a character for me to put in my book! Comments section!

As always, I hope you enjoy reading. Charlie does too.

Edit:

I changed up a bunch of dialog for Charlie and Paul's talk about the shard.
