Chapter Eight: Fairies?

Well that's odd, I thought as the strange but handsome man walked in the room. He called me his princess....my thoughts continued.
I watched Leidtogi with curiosity wondering if he was good or bad. He was very handsome,with his brunette hair and pale skin. He had a sharp jaw as well,which made him even more attractive. I wondered what type of fairy he was as he watched me with passionate blue eyes. He had a lean,muscular body,and he was very tall. His voice was deliciously deep as he said,"Well it seems you have found your way home Amanda...though not as gracefully as I expected." He gave me a mischievous look,and then his gaze turned cold as he turned to Charlie. "How could you,her protector, let that water sprite attack her! You fool Verndari,she could've drown!" He bellowed. As he finished his yelling at Charlie,he gave him a blow on the head with his fist that knocked Charlie out. I stood there in shock before flying at this strange man and screaming
"You! Who are you to lay a finger on Charlie, you loathsome,disgusting...." I kept screaming at him as I hit him as hard as I could,although none of my ruckus even made him flinch. He just gave me a strange look as he picked me up,as though I was light as a feather,and threw me over his shoulder.
"Calm down Amanda,he will wake up. That's just what he gets for almost letting you die,my dear."
Meanwhile, Kona was applying an ice pack to Charlie's head and laying him on the bed that I had been on not long before. She just looked as if Charlie had deserved to be hit,but at the same time,she looked affectionately at him. The strange man patted my upper thigh and my thoughts whipped back to him.
"Put me down you toad! Don't you dare lay a finger on me..."
He sighed beneath me and set me down.
"As you command,princess,I will obey. For now at least.."
With that remark he set me down on my feet,and stepped back smiling.
"I don't think I've properly introduced myself,I keep forgetting I know you,but you don't know me."
I interrupted him there.
"Hold on,how do you know me? Have you been watching me?" I almost squealed,but managed to keep my voice steady. He smiled warmly and said,
"As lovely as you are to look at,no, I haven't been watching you. However, Verndari has,and he tells me all he knows about you,because I am his captain. Anything else you'd like to know before I introduce myself,princess?"
I mumbled "No" and he continued.
"Well,I am Leidtogi Sigurvegari,captain of our kingdom's royal guard. It's very nice to actually be speaking to you instead of hearing about you from that idiot." He said as he pointed his thumb towards Charlie.
Which brought my mind back to why he was passed out on the bed.
"Why did you have to hit him?" I asked pitifully.
Leidtogi tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and whispered,
" I was put into a rage because you could have been hurt. I'm sorry for you having to see such violence upon our first meeting." All of the sudden,his voice came back to a playful tone as he said,
"My, my,I sure know how to make a first impression don't I? Well my darling why don't we go home so I can make it up to you with some dinner?"
This psycho wants me to go home with him?! He's incredibly handsome,but come on! He's frickin nuts...
The sane side of my mind screamed at me relentlessly until Kona broke her silence and interrupted it.
"I forgot to tell you. You will be staying with Leidtogi until the war is over. He is now your protector,and you may not leave his side. Verndari and I live here,and it would be quite bothersome to have you staying with us..."
WHAT! Verndari and Kona live together? This means my Charlie is Verndari and he lives with that lion woman?! I internally groaned before asking
"So you and Verndari are....?" I trailed off,and Kona said,
"Verndari and I are married. If you were wondering. He had to flirt to make sure you didn't figure out,and to keep you close by him. His actions were fake. Nothing more,nothing less."
I swallowed,hoping to keep some emotion hidden as I responded with,
"I understand. I never thought of him as anything but a friend."
"Good,it seems now that that has been cleared up,you and I shall be good friends."
And with that,her steely face was transformed with a smile,and I understood why Verndari married her.
I felt a large hand on my shoulder and I looked back and saw Leidtogi smiling sweetly at me.
"It's about time we head home princess. We have a few things we need to talk about." He said softly.
So I nodded and we headed out of the door and I saw that night had already fallen. I did not recognize where we were,but Leidtogi smiled at my gasp when I realized what I was seeing. There were glowing lights everywhere. I watched as a golden flower fell beside me and I looked up and saw many glowing flowers falling from the same massive tree. The tree was unlike anything I had ever seen. It had a golden wood staircase leading up to the crown of the tree,which was many feet above where I stood. There seemed to be a light coming from within the tree that lit up everything around it.
Beside the tree there was a crystal clear stream that flowed out of sight. Then I saw something move beside the stream. I realized that it was a woman...but at the same time,she wasn't. She had gauzy wings that hung down to her feet. Her ears were pointy,and her facial features were long and sloping. She had chestnut curls that reached her waist. Her clothing was odd,similar to Kona's. The woman's dress only went down to her thighs,and she wore a cloak and had a bow and arrows hanging from her back. She gave a charming smile to Leidtogi,and winked. Leidtogi kept a straight face and explained to me what the woman was.
" That,my dear is a Love fairy. If you ever run into a male one,please resist the temptation to be seduced. They only cause trouble,and I honestly don't want to have to hurt someone else today. That one's name was Freista,and she likes to play with men's minds,but in the end,if you ever need help,she will not betray you."
I nodded and Leidtogi led me to a beautiful sapphire colored carriage. He helped me up into it,and sat down beside me.
"Have you ever ridden in a carriage,my love?" He murmured
" I haven't yet..." I responded,unsure of how else to respond at the 'my love' statement.
"Well then,prepare for a bumpy ride." And with that he grabbed the reigns and we were off.

I kept my eyes closed for most of the ride,trying to process all that had happened today. Charlie is married. I'm now living with a strange man. I'm apparently a fairy princess and I'm now stuck in another realm.
Brilliant! At least I'm not dead. I tried to be positive,but I was just so anxious. I don't even know what a princess was supposed to act like,or the man I was living with,or the whole deal with a whole entire fairy division wanting to capture me. It's not fun.
After awhile,we arrived at Leidtogi's home. She noticed that it was bigger than Verndari's and Kona's hut,but it was still smaller than Aunt Margie's mansion. It was made of many intertwined branches and leaves,and the pathway to the door was made of soft green moss. Leidtogi helped me out of the carriage and we walked inside as he said
"Welcome to our home princess."
After he gave me a tour of his humble home, Leidtogi and I sat in the kitchen at the table.
He sighed and said,
"Well we have to get a few things straight darling." He cleared his throat, and I raised my eyebrows, beckoning him to continue.
"First,I am only here to protect you,I will never do anything to harm you,and I would die to save you."
As he said these things he covered my hand with his own and kept talking.
"You are a Light fairy,and our kingdom's future queen. However,you have powers that have not even been awakened; therefore you are defenseless and vulnerable to anything the dark fairy king throws at you. So I will teach you how to use your powers. It will be hard,since I am not a light fairy like you. I am an animal fairy. As of yet though,I have only shifted once. Only in times of great need can I shift,and I cannot tell you what I shift into yet. For now,you need to rest my princess. Tomorrow shall be a long day...we shall start training bright and early!" He finished with a chopper voice. Leidtogi showed me to my room,and lead me to my bed. He gazed deeply into my eyes as if he wanted to say something,but stopped himself. Instead he took off a necklace I didn't notice before and handed it to me.
"Do you remember the forest room at the mansion?" He asked
"Yes,how could I forget it? What about it?"I asked in return.
"This pendant will transport you back to that room if you are in danger. That is a safe place for our kind.
All you have to say are three words." He said
"What three words?" I asked expectantly
"Taktu mig heim" he whispered,and I could feel magic in the air.
"Why didn't it work? Did I break it?" I squealed.
He laughed and replied
"No,you didn't,its just you aren't in danger. You'll never be in danger as long as your in my arms."
I smiled at him,and he said
"Well it's about time you get some rest. I think we've both earned it. Scream if you need me."
"Alright,I'll do that. Goodnight Leidtogi." I said softly
"Goodnight my princess" he smiled.

I fell asleep then,and dreamt of fairies.
