The girl felt an aura behind her. It was colorless, which could only mean one thing.

She swung around, holding both of her arms out. Two transparent, red pistol formed in her hands and she leaped backwards. The guns were trained a woman. She had the girl's eyes, black as night. Both of the woman's arms shot forward and a dull, almost disappointingly gray wall formed.

"Calm down, Kira! Control yourself. You're pretty strong, girl."

Her words only succeeded in angering Kira. She fired two shots out of her gun. Once they hit the wall, they ricocheted, flying back at Kira. Her red pistols vaporized and her arms shot towards the bullets. Two smaller walls formed, causing the bullets to ricochet again, destroying the white walls of the surprisingly well-lit building. Pieces of the wall collapsed behind the woman.

The woman withdrew her arms and the gray wall disappeared.

"Hey! Hey, lets just talk, alright?" she said, he voice holding strong although she shook.

Kira growled, shooting a bolt out of her palm at the ceiling above her opponent. The woman jumped to her right, narrowly avoiding the chunk of white stone.

"Alright! Alright! I'll make you a deal. Let's have a duel. If I win, you listen to me, let me talk. If you win, I'll leave and never return."

Kira thought for a moment, anger clouding up the confusion in her brain. "Sure." she said, sounding stern.

The woman shot her right arm up, palm facing the ceiling. A gray beam of light shot out of her hand and formed a gray hemisphere that took up most of the room. Kira threw her palm similarly, and a red beam of light shot out of her hand. The red light danced around the grays, adding color to the darkness.

Both of them retracted their arms, but the hemisphere stayed. The duel had begun.

Kira stomped her foot. A red platform formed under her feet and both of them fastened into it. She slid her heel to the side and the platform lifted up and moved to the side.

The woman retaliated by shooting a beam in the direction of a slab of stone from the collapsed wall. The slab was lifted and shot towards Kira. The girl's heel slid like lightning, and she dodged by an eyelash.

Slightly afraid, she shot a bolt at the woman. She thrust out her left arm, attempting to shoot another bolt, but her hands and feet were engulfed in a gray mist. The red platform she was standing on was fading. She'd never seen these tactics before. The platform dropped to the ground and Kira fell to her knees. With her hands and feet surrounded, she was unable to use her powers. She felt her heart beating out of her chest, like a machine gun.

Her eyes lit up, and she decided to use her acting skills. She sunk to a slouch, eyes teary and sad. Her expression was pitiful, enough to make even the toughest man weep.

The woman lowered herself to the ground and advanced slowly.

"Face it, you're done." she said cockily. Kira's breathing became uneven. She forced her heart rate to speed up, to almost one beat per millisecond. The beating was so intense it must have been audible, like a rifle without a silencer. Kira felt the adrenaline bursting through her veins. The woman hesitated in her steps. Suddenly, a massive beam of light shot from Kira's chest. She screamed in agony as it left her heart and shot towards the woman, taking bits of her tattered heart with it.

"Face it, you're done... M-mom!" Kira shouted weakly, despite the adrenaline that was hesitant to calm rushing through her veins, her very soul. The woman was laying limp on the ground, eyes slowly blinking. Kira approached her slowly.

"M...om? H-how can you st-still... consider me yo-your moth-ther... after I... tr-tried to... kill... you?" the woman choked, uneasily attempting glancing around as if the her brain hadn't turned off battle-mode.

Kira now stood at her feet. She reached down and helped the woman up.

"I accepted the duel." Kira responded simply. She shot her arm up again and the duel hemisphere was absorbed into her skin. A single tally mark appeared on her arm.

"What is that?"

Her mother smile weakly but proudly.

"Th-that's a duel mark. You get it when y-you win duels." she replied, having a slightly better time speaking. She rolled up her sleeve. On her arm, wrapped like wristbands, were about 50 tally marks.

Kira's mouth stood agape. She had forgotten their deal. "How long have you been doing this?"

"Too long. But you have defeated me, my daughter."
