A/N: Hey! This is my very first story on Wattpad so I hope you like it! Enjoy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My heart raced. This was it! My entire future was in the white envelope that I held in my hand. My fingers hesitated on the seal. Should I? My anxiety got the better of me and I tore open the envelope. I fumbled on the trifold paper. My eyes glanced at the top and I could already tell that something was wrong. It said that the letter was from the Head of Admissions at Olympus "The Place for Gods and Goddesses" instead of the Head of Admissions at Olympus College. Huh?
Before I go any further, let me just say that I'm not going to college. Well I am, but just for one class. You see I'm actually just thirteen but I've had my entire life planned out since the age of nine. I am going to study really hard, go to college early, and then start my job as a marine biologist. College is the place for me because I'm really advanced for my school's course in marine bio. The school suggested that it was best for my learning to go to a much more advanced course. This letter was supposed to decide whether I was in or out. But, the problem was that I would now never find out because I GOT THE WRONG LETTER! Weirdly enough, it had my address and name on it. Maybe it is for me, but before I could start reading, I got a knock on the door. My best friend, Lily, popped her head in.
"Hey D! What'cha up to?" she said. My full name in Denizal (den-eye-zul) Amy Dylan but all my friends call me either D or Denny because my name is to hard to pronounce.
"It's dinner time!" she squealed. My stomach growled. In the orphanage where we lived we got strictly three meals each day, nothing more, nothing less.
"I'll be right there, " I replied. She closed the door, but I could still hear her beautiful singing voice and she skipped down the hall while humming her favorite song. That sound always cheered me up. It was one of the rays of light in this dark orphanage. I had lived here all my life, never knowing who I could have been had my parents been alive. I remember the touch of my mother's caring arms and my father's rough, but gentle hands. The orphanage mistress told me that I had been left on the doorstep of the orphanage at the age of one.
I slipped on my black flats and took a few steps towards the door, but then I remembered my letter. I picked it up and started reading.
Dear Ms. Denizal Amy Dylan,
The Dean of Admissions at Olympus, the place for gods and goddesses, welcomes you with open arms and congratulations! You have been accepted as a minor goddess, daughter of Poseidon and Athena. We do not yet know your power but when you come to Olympus we will find out. Please travel to Olympus in Greece as soon as possible so that you can start your job as a minor goddess. Please call this number for any questions: 1(570)OLYMPUS HOTLINE. Thank you!
Sincerely,
The Gods and Goddesses
Medusa
Dean of Admissions
I have been sitting here for two hours straight thinking about the letter. I don't know whether to believe it or not. It is probably a prank, but who would go through so much trouble to prank...me? I eventually decide to call the hotline number. I grab the landline beside Lily's bed and dial the long number.
"Hi! This is Olympus, can I help you?" says a sugar-coated voice from the phone.
"Yes, you can. May I be redirected to Medusa, the Dean of Admissions?" I reply to the voice.
"Yes of course, please hold for one minute." Hold music begins to play in the background. After about twenty seconds of this music someone replies.
"Hello?" says a middle aged womans voice.
"Hi, is this Medusa?" I respond.
"Yes it is. How can I help you today?"
"Well my name is Denizal and you just sent me a letter of admission to Olympus and I want to know right now if this is some sort of pranking or fraud line." I speak calmly into the phone.
"This is definitely no fraud line!" she exclaims, "But I do remember sending a letter to you. It's rather strange that Poseidon and Athena would have a child since they hate each other and everything. Well, of course Zeus just had Poseidon send thoughts of a child to Athena because all her children are born from thoughts. Well it was to help solve a prophecy that will be fulfilled in the near future. He wanted a powerful, intelligent, and wise minor goddess. He would have done it himself but he was under a tight leash with Hera after the tree nymph incident."
"Woah, woah, woah!" I say, totally confused. "You're saying that I'm the daughter of two feuding gods and I'm only alive to help solve some stupid problem that will happen in the future?!" I am totally out of breath but the gears in my brain are whirring faster than ever.
"Yup, pretty much," Medusa replies with no sympathy whatsoever.
"Wait a second, didn't Perseus chop your head off?" It was the best comeback I could think of because I had been thinking about this for a while now.
"Hey! that's personal!"screeches Medusa.
"Fine, fine. I'll come soon." I hang up the phone and start planning my escape from the orphanage.
