Steven woke up early in the morning, getting out of his bed and stretching. He walked down his creaky wooden stairs, humming to himself.
If only he knew what happened.
"Good morning, everyone!" Steven bellowed.
It only took Steven a short amount of time to realize no one was in the house with him.
"Amethyst?" He called. No response.
"Pearl?" He yelled. Once again, no response.
"Garnet? Dad?!" Steven screamed, getting scared with each person's name he called.
He rushed out the door, fearing that something happened to the Crystal Gems. He ran outside only to be stopped in his tracks. He saw no one. Absolutely nobody. The streets were deserted, it was as if the world was turned off.
His jaw dropped, as he walked around, searching for someone, any animal, any insect, or any living thing to make him feel safe. He searched for hours.
He checked Aqua-Mexican, he checked Big Donut, he checked the Ice Cavern, he checked where anyone could be. He checked where anyone should be.
Steven was growing fearful by the second. He's alone in his world now. No one to protect him. But there's nothing to protect him from, right? A million thoughts raced through Steven's head as he realized that maybe living here won't be too bad after all. He's got the entire world to himself.
But he's got nothing to himself at the same time. He's got everything, but if you have everything, doesn't that mean you have nothing at all? If you can't share, or give everything you have with the ones you love, what's the point of having it to yourself?
Steven then realized he had to escape. He needed to find help. He raced back to his house to see if there was anything he could do to even possibly escape somewhere else. He's done it before, but he doesn't fully understand how to get somewhere you want to go. It was difficult for him, some things he had to solve. At one point, he even called Pearl's name only to be stopped by himself, knowing she was missing.
Night fell, and Steven walked outside. He stared up at the bright moon, the dark sky, and the stars that dotted it. He needed to find a way. He couldn't be here by himself. He needs to go somewhere to find help. Then Steven got an idea.
He walked back inside, working all night to the break of dawn. He still didn't stop until he found a solution. And he did. He knew that exactly at a time of night, the moon would illuminate exactly the right amount of space on the Beach, which was where he was now.
It was still daylight, and Steven was carving a huge oval in the sand with his hands. He grabbed the bucket that he brought with him. Inside of the bucket was a gooey-like substance, with a navy blue color. He carefully poured that goo into the oval. All he had to do now was wait until night time.
-
As night rolled around, Steven watched as the moon light up his goo, and it started to swirl. He was ecstatic; his plan was working. The navy blue substance started to swirl on its own, faster and faster until it formed a portal. It was scary, to tell you the least.
Steven took one last look around before stepping in.
"I'll be back for you Beach City. I'll be back for everyone." He mumbled to himself.
He stepped into the portal, anxious to see what awaits him on the other side.
