My cries quieted and I slowly regained my composure as the horrible sight of the sick queen faded from my mind. I sat up and gave my mother a long hug before standing up and swimming off without a word. Just gliding through the water helped me clear my mind of all the horrible things that had happened in the past twenty-four hours. The thought of the young mermaid resurfaced in my mind and I felt the same anger boil and my pulse raced. These humans were just giving me more and more reasons to want to drown them as they tried with so many of us.
These sailors had seen their last morning sun. They would perish as they had sent us to perish as well. The sounds of their screams would make me smile as I'm sure they had after tossing me over.
