I push my glasses back up the bridge of my nose before starting down the sidewalk. I shiver slightly, unsure if it was from anticipation or the slight breeze that lingered. I look up at the sky. It has become grey and cloudy. I sigh, for I'm not fond of rain. I clutch the book against my chest as I spot Grayson's house. Praying that he isn't home, I start to walk by.
Unfortunately, not halfway between the house, I see him sitting on the porch, almost as if he expected me to be walking past his house right then and there. He looks up and we lock eyes for a brief moment. Panicked, I start to run.
"Mandy! Wait! I want to talk with you!" He jumps up and chases after me down the street. His long brown hair blows behind him as he follows me. It's not long before he catches up to me. He grabs my arm, causing me to drag my hand down the edge of the book and get a paper cut on my finger.
"Ow! Grayson! You made me get a paper cut!" I examine my finger as he looks down and blushes slightly.
"Sorry Mandy. I didn't realize that you had a book. Are you okay?" I nod my head shyly. "Yeah. I'm just glad that it's on my left hand. You would have been in trouble if it was my right hand."
He chuckles and smiles. I look up and stare at his big blue eyes as they twinkle with happiness, reminding me of one of the many reasons I fell in love with him in the first place. He notices me staring at him.
"What are looking at Mandy?" Embarrassed, I look down, certain that my cheeks are steadily turning pink. "It's nothing." Sensing the tension between us, I try to change the subject.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about Grayson?" He takes a deep breath before looking up at me.
"I just wanted to say that I realize that I was being a huge jerk, and I'm sorry, but I was hoping that you might give me a second chance because...I really miss you Mandy."
He rubs the back of his head nervously. I stand there for a moment, unsure on how to respond. I never expected him to say that he wanted me back.
"This is really sudden Grayson. I'll have to think about it, okay?" "Yeah. It's cool. No rush on your decision either." I smile at him. "Thanks." Filled with emotions, I hug him. Surprised, it takes him a moment to hug me back. His strong arms wrap around me tightly. I take a deep breath before letting go.
"Listen Grayson. I really think I should get going now. So..." "Oh. Yeah. Right. Um...I guess I'll see you around then?" I smile. "Yeah. Bye." He waves at me as I continue on my way home.
