                Angelica (Angel) River
-------------------------------------

"What?!" My best friend, Macy screeched, and ripped the paper out of my hand. I watched her curiously as she read it to herself.
"No," she muttered, scanning the paper. "No way."
"I swear, I found it in my locker, with my name on it," I said. She raised an eye brow at me.
"Why did she invite you? No offense or anything," Macy said with a weak smile.
"That's what I've been wondering, to be honest. Why me?" I asked, shoving the paper back in my satchel.
Macy rubbed her head, sighing,"Well, you are on the track team, and have a pretty good rank."

Which I had to admit, was true. I was fifth or sixth, and I got third in hurdles. Of course, Angel was rank one, and was the best pole vaulter our county had seen in years.

Angel's sleepovers were legendary. She didn't invite just anybody, you had to be smart, pretty, or athletic. Which brings up the competition.
After every sleepover, a list of who was what would go around the school. Angelica had a table full of all the girls on the list each month. Being on the list was instant popularity, and that's why everyone made a big deal out of it, including Macy.
It seemed like I was the only one in the whole school who didn't. It junior year, and soon we would never see each other again. I didn't plan to make popularity the center of my universe.
The bell rang, which brought me out of my thoughts, and sent me to my first class of the day.

"Who else was invited this year?" One of Angel's friends said. Another one, which I think is Lucy, the cheer captain, whispered to her. "Indigo," Lucy said, and pointed to me. I sunk lower in my seat, noticing the attention they gave me. I didn't want to be the prey of the cheer squad for being invited. Lucy narrowed her eyes at me and barely bat an eye before turning around.

Suddenly the door opened, and everyone turned to who was there. It was Chase Anderson, the "mysterious" (or so people liked to say) bad boy of the school. He walked in, glaring at everyone, and had the most angry look on his face I've ever seen. I didn't know it was possible for someone to show that much emotion. He sat down at a seat right across from mine.
"Mr. Anderson, you are late, again," the teacher said sighing. Chase didn't bother even glancing up. He hardly talked at all, and for some reason that made all the girls fall for him.
"He sat next to her," Lucy said to her friend. All of the popular girls glared at me, and finished there stare with a hair flip.
We started taking notes, and every minute or two I'd glance at Chase's paper. He was writing something, but it wasn't in our notes format. His expression was still angry, but it had passion. His face spoke all the words for him.

His paper accidentally fell to the ground, and he tried to get it, but it was to far away. It was right by my foot, and I picked it and got a glance of it.

Girls want the crown, they'd die for it. Looks make them tear each other down. We aren't supposed to judge, yet they do over fame. They choose their game over staying sane.

He snatched it out of my hand, and stared deeply at me, his eyes speaking for him. They screamed 'Anger and privacy' which made since because I read his paper.
"Do you write poems?" I whispered. He didn't look up at me, and I asked again. Much louder.

The teacher stopped writing on the board and turned to me. "Mrs. Thompson, I'd expect more of you than to talk in my class." I sunk in my chair embarrassed, and heard snickers surround me. Chase was still writing, and that made me happy that one person, even him, didn't laugh.
I returned to my notes, making sure to not stare at chase or get lost in my thoughts. The bell rang after what seemed like eternity, and I walked out to my locker.

My books slid easily into my locker, and I grabbed my textbooks. A loud heel clicking sounded closer and closer.
I looked up to see Angel River at my locker, almost a foot taller than me, with a grin on her face.

"So, Indigo,  are you coming to my sleepover?" She asked. I nodded and she clapped, like this was great news for her.

"But, why me?" I asked her. Her grin turned into a smirk as she flipped her hair. "Competition is needing someone like you Indie. Are you ready for it?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," I muttered. She smiled, and then strutted over to Lucy and another girl. Macy walked up to my locker.
"Well that was interesting," she said laughing. I cracked a grin and saw her look at Angelica.
"I wish I could come,"she said sighing. I looked at her, noticing a bit of envy on her face.

"I'll try to get you there, ok?" I said, patting her shoulder. Macy looked the other way. "Yeah, sure," she replied.

I closed my locker, and got ready for my next class. As I was about to leave, Macy whispered,

"I think this competition is bigger than what we thought it would be."
