Once upon a nearby galaxy we live in, a girl eats sushi in a restaurant.
The girl with white hair that has a dyed blue streak in it checks her phone in the bustling sushi place.
Kaitlin: "Almost there, Maya! My Pegasus Über is so slow."
Maya laughs and rolls her eyes. Classic Kaitlin. She's a special one.
Maya plops the last of the Sushi roll into her mouth and spits it out immediately. Of all the weird ingredients in sushi, she's never before seen paper stuffed inside of her food.
Hmm, well...Maybe it's like a fortune cookie. Maya thinks as she shrugs and unrolls the scroll-like parchment.
It reads:
"The fate of the world rests upon one. One who shall solve the mystery that holds the fate of the world."
And all of a sudden Maya is served another plate of tiny sushi rolls. Unnerved, Maya gathers all of the sushi rolls and slams a wad of cash on the table.
She rushes out of the restaurant, holding too much sushi. She turns the fortune paper over: Btw, beware of the Secret Agent Narwhals, m8.
The sushi rolls start to tumble out from her arms. They roll like wheels crazily onto the sidewalk. Maya squeals. This is a disaster.
Sushi rolls all around like burritos on a slope. Maya's eyes widen in fright. No five second roll can save them now!
THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN! The sushi rolls fly through the air and stack up on one another on a large sunflower that is for some reason growing out of the gutter drain.
Logic. It exists. But let's completely discard it, apparently. Maya thinks, perplexed as she strokes her chin thoughtfully like those movie detectives.
"Sorry that I couldn't arrive sooner." A familiar voice sounds to Maya's right. "My preferred Pegasus Über was on vacation. I should've listened to Katie when she said it's safer to use a licensed Pegasus taxi, but I couldn't find one on short notice!" She rambles on. Maya looks on; her face twisting up and eyebrows raising in bafflement.
"Oh hi!" Kaitlin greets finally. "Sorry about that sushi fiasco. Truly unfortunate,"
"Umm...hi." Maya says, still distracted. "It's fine. The sushi are a lost cause though." Maya plucks the sushi rolls from that random sunflower and throws them away. "I will avenge you." She whispers.
Kaitlin notices the slip of paper in Maya's grip. "Is that the prophecy of the Mysterious Mystery?!?!?!!?!?"
Maya looks at Kaitlin. "Is that what it is...?"
Kaitlin GASPS. "OMGTHATISSOINSANE!"
"What is the mystery though?" Maya asks.
"I...I do not know." Kaitlin says.
"Well..."
"Yeah..."
"That's a problem..."
"Especially if the world depends on it being solved and such..."
Maya raises her hand a little. "Also, what are Secret Agent Narwhals?"
The wind picks up. Kaitlin's caramel-amber blonde hair waves in the wind like the the American flag or the YouTube flag for reports because I don't know where this sentence is going.
The clouds darken and swirl like a funnel. Rays of sunlight poke through the webs of gluey clouds overhead. Leaves fly around—the sunflower uproots and laughs evilly—a newspaper advertising goat biofuel gets caught on Kaitlin's face.
"You have something on your face..." Maya starts.
"Yeah, I know. One sec." Kaitlin swats away the paper. "It's probably not littering..."
Dramatic monologue music plays from Maya's phone.
"I know the Narwhals. But it's okay, they're in Britain. And the U.K made the Brexit so it'll be hard for Narwhals in super spy suits to move all over Europe." Kaitlin starts. She stares dramatically into the distance. "I know them as if they're my own annoying siblings that won't leave me alone because they're just that way, you know how siblings are. I'm also magical."
Everything reverts back to its previous state. But now the world has to deal with a flying flower that grew from the sewers. A few burritos fall down a hill too.
"Okay..." Maya says. "How do we figure out this mysterious mystery?"
Kaitlin taps her chin. "Hmm...I may have an idea."
