Chapter Inspiration: Summertime,
My Chemical RomanceHis dreams changed after he met Natalia.
He hadn't known what to expect of Natalia being his partner. But it soon became apparent to him, that neither did she.
Surprisingly enough, however, they worked well together. Between them, the efficiency and speed that the missions were carried out increased.
The Soldier appreciated that it was rare she needed to be told what to do, which meant their missions were practically completed in silence. He had been assisted with less competent recruits of a more mercenary nature, but she did not fit into this field. She did not assist him. She worked with him. And very occasionally she impressed him.
In the field she was precise, cold, and unapologetic. It was a lethal combination they both shared, but her style was more defensive than his, her approach more cautious.
In the training room it was different. Like the other girls she would ask him how to do certain things. Unlike the other girls she would ask him why, or what situation would demand a certain movement. Sometimes she'd ask for a full analysis, occasionally they'd do this together. Other times her questions were completely unrelated to the training.
She wasn't overly friendly with him, but there was a small hint familiarity in the civil manner in which she addressed him.
Natalia was not afraid of The Soldier.
One day there was a group session. Most of the girls in the school had attended. It was a weekly lesson, which gave the younger girls a chance to learn from the older students.
Natalia had been paired with a blonde kid called Yelena.
She chose to focus on Yelena , rather than the way The Soldier was readjusting Olga's position.
Yelena made this easy, she was a good partner. In fact she was the best Natalia had had from the juniors in a long time.
It was obvious when Yelena was picked to partner with Natalia that she was pleased; and she was evidently putting in a lot of effort to impress the older girl.
Yelena was shy but had put on a brave face when they had begun, and Natalia was quick to put the younger girl at ease.
Once they began Yelena completely forgot her shyness. She was agile and well prepared. She managed to land a few kicks and punches to Natalia, who had managed to block and dodge most. Their sparring gradually became more brutal, and their neighboring students took notice and paused their individual matches to watch.
As Yelena grew more excited, Natalia grew more interested. This kid could one day be some real competition. Or even an ally...
As Yelena began to flag, all the students gathered around for the final few moments of the fight. All eyes were on them now. Including The Soldier's.
Yelena had wrapped her leg around Natalia's, and pulled her arm towards the ground. Natalia balanced herself on her other arm before impact, and used her other leg to kick Yelena's head back. Yelena let go of Natalia's leg, and rolled backwards, before jumping up and running at Natalia. She twisted a little before swinging her leg towards Natalia's stomach. Natalia caught her foot before it connected, and slammed her to the floor. She pulled both of Yelena's hands behind her back trapped them with her own body, using one arm to keep Yelena in place. The older girl knelt on the back of Yelena's legs and used her other arm to trap her head.
