I have no idea what this is but I wanted to upload it because...Well, because I can! Lol! Enjoy!

A little girl ran through the forest, listening for any hoofs hitting the ground, and let out a little giggle as she hid behind a tree. Her grey-green eyes looked behind the tree, waiting to see her friend coming after her. The girl’s small chest rose and fell at a rapid pace, straining her hearing to any signs of her friend.  Once she caught her breath, she turned around and began to run again. Her dark, black hair wiped around her as she kept running but then she committed a grave mistake.

She turned her head back.

Her small body hit a hard wall and she let out ‘oomph’ as she fell to the ground. She looked up and a pout appeared on her face.

“No fair! You took the shortcut!” the girl scolded the person standing in front of her with a smug look to his face. The person was a young boy of ten with straight brown hair that seem to always fall into his bright emerald eyes and his slightly crooked nose. His naked chest was slightly built but from the waist down, was the body of a young horse with a dark brown coat with white ‘socks’,  the little girl like to call it.

In front of the little girl stood a centaur.

The centaur let out a laugh as he helped the little girl up from the ground. The girl glared at the still-laughing centaur as she wiped off the dirt from her light green dress. She then stood in front of him with her arms across her chest, waiting for her friend to stop laughing. Once the laughing died down, the centaur looked at the annoyed girl in front of him.

“You know that is not true Meganessa. You just do not have the talent like mine.” The young centaur boasted.

“I do too! It’s just that my talent has not developed yet.” The girl argued softly as she looked at the ground. The young centaur shook his head at her but smiled lightly at her.

“It does not matter that you do not developed a talent. You will wed me when you and I are ready to wed and I will take care of you. I promise.” The young centaur told her gently as he grabbed her small hand into his. The girl shook her head and pouted in defiance.

“No, I will become the greatest girl hunter and then we both will hunt when we wed.” The girl told him with defiance and squeezed his hand. The young centaur rolled his eyes at the stubborn girl in front of him.

“Okay future greatest hunter ever, let’s get you home before your parents get worry.” At that sentence, the young girl’s eyes brighten and a bright smile appeared on her face.

“Can I ride on your back? Please Thane! Please!!” the young girl begged as she clasped her hands in front of her and her eyes begged. Thane smiled at the young girl and tapped his chin as if he was thinking about.

“Hmm…I don’t know…” Thane teased, only to be hugged around his waist as the girl jumped, begging.

“Please Thane! Thane! Thane! Thane!” Meganessa kept begging, each time the name getting louder and louder. Thane finally gave in and let out a chuckle. He grabbed Meganessa’s hand and helped her climb into his back. Once she was seated securely on Thane’s back, Thane began to gallop back towards her home.  Meganessa let go of Thane’s waist to spread her arms open. Meganessa closed her eyes and smiled. She felt as if she was flying and that was no stopping her. Thane smiled at this act, knowing that he made this small girl happy with a simple ride. Thane decided that he would take the longer way to her house just to make Meganessa happy. After ten mintues, Thane can to a stop.

“Meg, time for you to go home.” Thane whispered, not wanting to ruin her happiness. Meganessa sighed, letting her arms drop to her side, and open her eyes to see Thane looking at her. Meganessa pouted as she crossed her arms.

“Do I have to go?” She asked, although she knew the answer. Thane nodded his head as he help Meganessa off his back.

“Don’t worry, Meg. I will come back and we can play together again. Goodnight Meg.” Thane fought against himself to whether kiss Meganessa or not. Finally he gave in and gave her a small peck on the cheek. Meganessa’s eyes widened as she touched her cheek and stared at Thane in surprise. Thane blushed as he rubbed his neck.

“Goodnight Meg.” And with that, Thane turned around and galloped home, leaving behind a still confused Meganessa. Meganessa turned around and began to walk home, looking back once and in while to see if what had happen was true. The thought of the kiss made Meganessa blush and her heart flutter. The image of Thane laughing and smiling appeared in her head, making her heart beat faster and her stomach do a little dance. As she was about to reach her house, she looked up and saw smoke rising from where she knew her house stood. Meganessa stood there, shocked, before running towards her house. Her little heart pounded loudly and her heavily breathing was the only thing she could hear. She came to halt, a few yards away, and her mouth open slightly. Her eyes reflected the small house that was beginning eaten by the angry fire. Her heart pounded franticly as she cup her hands around her mouth to magnify her voice and yelled with all her might.

“Papa!! Mama!! Where are you!?” she screamed as she hoped that her family will come out of the house, safe and sound. But no one came out. Meganessa ran towards the house and stop within a meter from the burning house. The horrible heat warmed her skin, making her small face turn a bright red. With the roaring sounds of the house falling apart inside, Meganessa didn’t hear the rest of the town rushing into her front yard. Meganessa thought she heard her little sister beckon her to enter the burning house.  She step on the first step and reach to open the front door but what happen next would scar her for the rest of her life. The doorway above her started to crumble, making her look up in surprise.  A figure behind quickly snatch her away from the falling doorway but not soon enough to stop the pieces of ember that fell into the young girl’s eyes. The sudden pain in her eyes made Meganessa scream as she struggled to get out of the stranger’s hold.

“Quickly, get a wet rag for the girl.” A deep, caring voice ordered as he set the girl down on the ground, retaining her. Within seconds, a cold yet comfortable cloth was set over her burning eye but it did not numb the pain.

“Are there any survivors?” the voice asked as he held Meganessa close. There was a sudden intake from the stranger as he rubbed Meganessa’s back. The stranger picked Meganessa up and began to order others to make sure the fire doesn’t spread to the forest and to let the house burn until the fire stops. The stranger began to wake towards town, only to be stop by another person.

“Where are you taking her?”

The stranger stop in his tracks and looked at the small child that he held in his arm. He does not have children, for his wife die years ago during childbirth. The man had not remarried for he still felt grief and no woman had caught his interest. He did not know why he was taking the small child with him when he can leave her in an orphanage but something in his heart clench at the thought of the poor girl living in an unknown place. A single thought cross his mind when the small girl clutched his fine jacket as she let out a whimper.  Her small, pale hands stained with dirt stained the clean and expensive jacket but that did not matter to the man.

“Home.” And with that, the man kept walking towards his lonely house that would later be filled with joy and laughter.

Meganessa had been listening quietly as she managed to suppress the pain in her eyes. Home, she questioned. But her home was with her father, mother and her little sister. Meganessa let the stranger take her to his house and let him take care of her wounds before leaving and going to Thane. She hoped that Thane wouldn’t mind if she leaved with him and his clan. Between the silence of the night and the warmth that radiated from the stranger’s body, Meganessa fell asleep.
