~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This can't be happening! We've only been here for a couple months and he's already doing this?
I watched my dad drop to one knee and pull a ring out of his pocket. Is that...? No way. He's asking her to marry him? Just like that? Come on, this seriously can't be happening!!!"Audrey", I could hear my dad yell from the kitchen. "Audrey, you need to wake up and get ready for school"
"I'm up!", I said yelling from my room.
I got out of bed and headed to the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. I really didn't want to go to school today."Audrey, don't forget I'm picking you up early today so we can get on the road before traffic gets bad", he said.
Alright, dad. I'll see you then. I walked back to my room and got dressed.
My room was empty, everything was packed and it looked the same as when we first moved here a couple months ago.You see, my mom and dad had gotten a divorce and decided to move away from each other. It was my three siblings and I who were stuck in the middle of all this; deciding who we were going to live with, what we were going to pack and most importantly, why this happening? A week had gone by and it was time to leave; my dad woke me up early in the morning and told me to grab the last of my things.
This is it, this is going to be the last time I see my mom and siblings for a long time.
It wasn't my decision to live with my dad, I was kind of forced to.As we loaded up the last of our things, I turned and asked my dad where we were moving to.
"Kentucky.", he said.
My dad's whole family lived in Kentucky; his dad, his brother, and a lot of his friends.
Part of me was upset because I would not only be leaving my family, but also some of my closest friends. On the other hand, part of me was excited because I was going to be living with my papaw until my dad found us our own place. (Papaw means grandpa; just in case any no southerners were wondering.)
I had just finished putting the last of my things in the car when my dad asked if I was ready to go.
"Not yet, dad." I said as I headed back into the house.
I walked into the living room and saw my mom crying on the couch.
"Audrey" she said. "Come here, honey."
I couldn't hold back anymore, I ran to my mom and hugged her as tears were pouring down my face.
"I love you so much, mom! I don't want to leave you."
My mom lifted my head up and started wiping away the tears. "I love you too, honey. More than anything in this world! And I know you don't want to leave but your father thinks it's best if you live with him. Don't worry, I promise we'll see each other soon, okay?"
All I did was nod in agreement, I couldn't find the strength to speak.
My mom and siblings walked me to the car where we said our final goodbyes.
I climbed into the car and looked in the mirror as we pulled away from the house. Everyone was waving goodbye and I couldn't help but let my emotions out.
