Harry had only just turned five a week ago, but James was already anticipating the first sign of magic. The couple had decided against sending their son to Muggle school, which only made James more restless.
"Relax, James. He will show his magic when he's ready." Lily laughs at James, who is sitting cross legged in front of Harry, watching him intently. Harry fidgets, wanting to run off and play with his new toys. "Run along, Harry." She smiles, and the small boy pops off the ground, racing upstairs.
"Lily, what if he's a Squib?" James frowns, standing up off the floor.
"So, what? He will be a squib, but he will be our squib. Harry will still be our son, James. No matter what." Lily says with a small grin, walking to her husband and wrapping her arms around his waist.
"I know, but I want him to be able to experience magic and flying on brooms and going to Hogwarts." He muses, looking down at the love of his life.
"We can take him to Hogwarts on a field trip, he can fly on your broom and he doesn't need to experience magic to feel it. The love we have for him has a bigger impact than magic." She whispers, kissing his cheek gently. He sighs, closing his eyes, and kissing her lips.
"Yeah. Yeah. Okay." He nods, putting his forehead against hers.
"Bravo." Sirius says from behind Lily, clapping for them. "Quite a show, Prongs. Touching, really." He says with a smile, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Don't act like you don't wish you had this." James purrs, swooping Lily down, pressing his lips to hers with force and passion.
Sirius pretends to vomit, but it is obvious he is smiling.
James steadies Lily, both of them giggling.
"What are you doing here, Padfoot?" James asks walking to his best friend, and giving him a hug. Neither of the men is afraid to show their affection like this. Public or otherwise. In fact, none of the remaining Marauder's are. They love each other in a way that no one else ever could. It was like they were only really themselves when they were together. The other two had officially adopted Lily as the fourth Marauder since Peter had been taken to Azkaban. She wasn't an anigmus, but she filled the spot better than Peter had. Sirius and Remus called her Red (they had decided she would be a fox), but James called her Foxy. Lily thought it was lame, but James wouldn't stop calling her by the obnoxious name.
"Take the sausage fest to the kitchen, boys. We're having company." Lily smiled, opening the front door of the cottage. There stood a very well-known family of the wizarding world, recognized purely by their fiery red hair and cauldron full of children.
"Merlin's beard, Mrs. Weasley. I didn't know you'd bring the whole family. I don't have much space." Lily laughs, letting them inside. One by one, they file in. Mrs. Weasley, Mr. Weasley, Fred, George, Bill, Percy, Charlie, Ronald and Ginny. Ginny is only 4, so her mother holds her on her hip.
"Sorry, dear. Arthur wouldn't stay home alone with six other kids, and we can't very well leave them home alone." Mrs. Weasley laughs, "And please, call me Molly." She grins, setting Ginny down.
"I would say I understand, but I only have the one. Harry! Come downstairs, please!" Lily calls, hearing the boy running down the steps.
"Mum, I could have watched over the others." Bill mumbles, but Molly ignores him, focusing on Harry.
"You're a handsome boy, aren't you? Your glasses are very cute. Similar to your fathers." Molly says to the boy, Ronald hiding behind her leg. Harry shrugs.
"This is Ron. He's your age, too." She pushes the red haired boy from behind her leg, and he stares at Harry with wide eyes.
"Hi. I'm Harry." The boy says with a big smile, pulling Ron into a hug.
"I blame you for this." Lily whispers to James and Sirius, laughing as the red haired boy hugs Harry back. "Why don't you show Ron your toys upstairs, yeah?" She says to her son, and he nods, running upstairs with the other boy following behind him.
"This is Bill, he is fifteen. Then there's Charlie, thirteen. Percy is nine. Fred and George are seven. Then there's Ron, and Ginny. Only have two attending Hogwarts now. In two years Percy gets to go. He's already reading The History of Magic." Molly introduces, and Percy smiles smugly at them. Lily, Sirius and James say their greetings, shaking hands with everyone.
"I'm Lily. This is my husband, James, and Harry's godfather; Sirius." She tells them, but they don't say anything. Finally, one for the twins breaks the silence.
"You're pretty humorless, aren't you?" One asks with a sly grin.
"I'd say he's pretty Sirius." The other laughs, and Molly smacks them both.
"Sorry about these two. They can't help themselves." Molly aplogizes, but Sirius and James just laugh at them.
"They can hang out in here while you come to the kitchen to talk?" Lily suggests, and Molly's face lights up.
"That would be lovely." She nods.
"I'll make tea." Lily scurries off to the kitchen, stopping to whisper in James' ear.
"Be nice."
"So...um...what's it like having seven kids?" Sirius says to Molly, looking between each of them.
"Troublesome." Molly laughs, and Arthur looks at her.
"That's an understatement." He shakes his head, and James snorts.
"I have just the one and sometimes I want to run away." He admits, but Sirius just nudges his arm. "I love him, though. And Lily. I'd never give it up." Prongs sighs, looking towards the kitchen, his wife putting water in the kettle. Padfoot stares at his feet, frowning.
"That's sweet." Molly croons, and then points at the kitchen. "May I?" She asks and James shrugs nonchalantly.
"Of course."
She goes to the kitchen, leaving the kids and the three men alone.
"Your wife...she's gorgeous." Arthur says with a small grin. James would otherwise be defensive, but Lily is only eleven years older than Arthur's oldest son, and he's just being nice.
"I know. That's why I married her. Molly is quite beautiful, too." He muses, and Arthur nods.
"Yeah." He sighs, a small smile playing on his lips. "What about you, Sirius? Do you have a wife? Kids?"
"No. No. Not yet. Got James, though, and he gives me more than enough love." Sirius answers with a laugh, patting James on the back. Arthur chuckles with them, and turns to his kids, whispering to the adults.
"They are a handful, but it's worth it. Make both my wife and I very happy." He gives Sirius and James a small smile, which only James returns. Sirius gives them both a farewell, calling one to Lily in the kitchen and Harry upstairs.
He leaves the cottage hastily, his head hanging low.
"What's got him upset?" Arthur asks Prongs, who shrugs. He knows, though.
He knows his best friend wants a family, too.
