Chapter 6

August 11, Isobel, recorded into Ernest's diary (ahem, she means journal –Ernest) (second note: apologies for the errors, Isobel is not quite as ardent a proofreader as I –Ernest)

I've never kept a diary before, but Ernest really thought I should add my story to his, as I think he put it, and after everything that happened yesterday and today or night or whatever I feel like I owe him at least this even though it is super hard to actually just write write when I am so used to using a microphone or holoboard to put up my thoughts. I had all the social media things before the internet stopped working and I tweeted and updated my Facebook and Instagram and even had a few VRogs up. I had just gotten the camera the Christmas before the world went all horror show. I didn't ever really like scary movies and I really hated fucking living in one, but I would rather be a monster than be the victim of one, which is why I did what I did to Ernest #sorrynotsorry. Sigh. -Ernest

I'm sure your going to read this, Ernie, and I do feel bad about how this all went down and how I have hurt your feelings by not swooning all over you like the clingy damsel in distress you thought I was. Time to join the 21st century, doll! I know that sounds harsh I'm being bitchy I'm sorry but I'm hungry and tingly and everything looks and sounds and feels so different and you wont just let me go tear that bitch's head off! I don't think this is as thearapytic as you told me it would be Whatever, anyway, you wanted me to write down what I've been through since society collapsed so I will try to write all that stuff down, but my hand is starting to hurt so I don't know if I can get it all out in one time. I'm getting really sleepy too, it is like I cant even keep my eyes

August 11, Ernest

She passed out while writing. The day coma of the young hit her rather suddenly, the sun has just barely began to creep up. I will record the many things that came to pass today and perhaps Isobel will want to try again at her story later. It has been an eventful day, I must say, with a little good news and a whole great swath of tension and troubles.

Upon awaking, Isobel found I had restrained her. No, not for fun. When young vampires awaken they have a bloodlust in them that drives them nearly mad and they attack almost anything. Had she been able to get out of the room, she would have attacked all of her friends, Paedar, or worse yet, Albert, who, if he didn't kill her out of self-defense, had she drank from him, would have found herself poisoned by the werewolf's blood within him. When she awoke, however, the bloodlust was not upon her. The only thing in her eyes was fear and she screamed at finding herself tied down. Realizing my mistake I quickly apologized and released her, explaining the reason. She scooted into a far corner of my bunk, rolled into a ball, shivering and breathing heavily and looking all around her. While the bloodlust was not on her, I recognized that her senses had increased dramatically and she was being bombarded by more information than she could readily take in all at once. I lowered the lights and knelt down beside her.

"It's okay. I just wanted to make sure you weren't going to try to attack anyone." I whispered, knowing she might take a bit to get used to the increased hearing. She had covered her ears, though this brought a shock to me. When she pulled back her hair, it was clear her ears had elongated, like those of the faerie folk. Clearly the blood has had an effect on her that I would not have imagined. The upside is, she is not tainted with the bloodlust of youth. The downside is I have no idea what this could mean for her as far as the abilities and weaknesses. After she regained herself a bit we began to talk.

"How are you feeling?"

"I feel... strong. Really strong. And I can see everything in this room even though it's dark, it's like it is daytime and I can hear everything and it is just so much. I can hear things beneath us. I can hear horrible things beneath us. I can hear everyone and it is just so jumbled up!"
