Jubilation Lee, aka Jubilee, is the daughter of two Chinese immigrants in Beverly Hills, and that was also where her mother and father then raised her. She had lived a good life in her early years, er parents fairly rich, she attended an exclusive Beverly Hills school.
She was taught gymnastics from a young age, and was believed to have the gymnastic potential to preform in the olympic games which, to be honest, is so frickin cool. Like, if needed, I bet that she could use her gymnastic skills in hand to hand contact.
However, in her (possibly but also most likely) early teen years Jubilee's parents lost all their money in the stock market, meaning both she and them lost their charmed life style straight away and became bankrupt in a split second.
Then, not that long after that, the Lee family were mistaken for their neighbours (who coincidentally also had the last name Lee) by two hitmen, while Jubilee was out with a friend of the family. So in total Jubilee has this total Batman thing going on but its cooler because she's actually got superpowers.

After this, Jubilee was taken to an orphanage, to which she quickly ran away from. She ended up at a Hollywood shopping mall, where she began stealing food to survive. This is, consequently, where the mutant discovered her powers. When running away from mall security her hands let out blinding and explosive energy "fireworks". Being scared, Jubilee ran into a back ally and emitted a large blast of light that managed to blind and disorientate the men for a time, allowing her to escape.
After this, the girl realised that she could use her powers to entertain people at malls and gain money while doing so. So after this she began to preform with her powers in the mall. The people that run the mall got tired ofJubilee being there then hired mutant-hunters to rid the girl from the mall.
These mutant hunters were known as M-Squad, and jubilee managed to hold her own against them for a while by shooting tractor beams at them, however she was eventually caught. Luckily, Jubilee was rescued by the X-Men Dazzler, Psylocke, Rogue and Storm. (all of these characters were X-Women)
The four X-Women had happened to be shopping at the same mall at that time, and thats where they managed to save Jubilee. (comic cover below, oh when comics were only $1)

The team and Jubilee intended to depart, but Jubilee then saw the group jump through a portal. Jubilee was curious about them, and decided to follow them through the portal - where she ended up at the X-Mens Australian base
