The door of Mira's house fell to the floor. Mira felt a trembling hand on her shoulder. Mira turned around to see her mom standing behind her. In her other hand, her mom held a shining blade. The blade was a red steel with a bright aura coming off it.
"Mira you need to listen to me. Take this." Her mom handed her a navy blue backpack that was slightly heavy. Mira slung the bag over her shoulder, to shocked to speak.
"Run as far as you can. Read the note inside. Don't come back. Now go!" Her mom gave her a light shove towards the back door. Mira stumbled out the door. She looked back inside to see hooded figures walk in the door. Mira saw her mom stab three figures with her glowing sword. Mira started running away from the house. She took one last look through the window. Mira's mom was fighting three hooded figures. One pulled out a gun of a sort. Before Mira could register what was happening, the figure pulled the trigger. No gunshot noise was made. Mira watched as her mom fell to the floor.
"Mum!" Mira started to run to her mother's aid. She suddenly stopped and remembered her mother's words.
Don't come back.
Mira turned and ran into the woods behind her house as fast as her legs would carry her. The moon started to rise, the wolves started to howl, the creatures came out from hiding. At every sound, Mira would flinch, but keep running.  Finally, when Mira couldn't run any longer, her knees gave out under her. She came tumbling down the hill until she came to a stop. Mira fumbled with the zipper on the backpack. She laid out what was in the bag. An envelope, water, and a weird pin. First, Mira drank a lot of water. She took the pin in her hand. It was black and blue with a D in the middle. Maybe it stands for my last name? Draeken. Since the pin didn't seem to do anything, Mira set the pin aside and took up the envelope. Mira slowly slid out the paper inside. It was thick paper and it felt old. With trembling hands, Mira unfolded the paper. Her breath could be seen in the frigid air. On the paper was blue ink car carefully forming letters. The note was no doubt her mother's handwriting.

Dear Mira,
I know you are probably very confused right now. There is just too much to explain. If you have seen the pin already, it has been passed down our family. Prick your finger with the needle on the pin. You will figure it out from there. Other than that, there is a ring in the envelope. Put it on. Someone else will have to explain everything to you. Remember, I love you. You're strong. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You are special. The best kind of special there is. Goodbye my little ray of sunshine.

Love,
Mum

Tears leaked out of Mira's eyes uncontrollably. Once she had calmed down, Mira took the pin. She pricked her finger. Crimson liquid leaked out of the cut in her pointer finger. The pin started to glow. The pin transformed in front of Mira's eyes. A sword materialized in her hand. It was black steel with light coming off it. In the handle was carved Draeken. After studying the sword, Mira pressed the hilt and it became a pin in her palm. Mira took the envelope in her hand and emptied it on her hand. A single ring fell in her hand. It had the same inscription as the pin. Mira slung her backpack over her shoulder and slipped the ring on her left hand. The ring emitted a bright light. Mira felt her knees give out and darkness claimed her.

Hey guys! What do you think of the first chapter? This is my first story so if you don't like it haters gonna hate. Please tell me if auto correct was being it's annoying self and 'corrected' my spelling. I'd really appreciate if you could take a second and by that star to make it light up. It would really light up my day. Thanks!
