I'm lying in the darkness, and I have no idea of what time it is. I think it's morning soon, but I can't really tell because of the lack of light in the room. No windows, no lighted lamps. Nothing.
I sigh and turn my head to the other side of the couch. I haven't slept anything since Nick went to bed hours ago. I just can't seem to get my mind blank enough to fall asleep. It's always something that stops me as my eyelids turn heavy and my body craves for sleep.
A part of me wants to stay awake, just to show Nick that no one, and I mean no one, controls me. But at the same time, another part of me is begging for my mind to give up and just give in and let sleep take over, because I need my strength if I am going to escape. But since my mind refuses to let me get even a few minutes of silence inside my head, sleep isn't an option anyway. I can get up and try to find the key Nick was talking about, but I don't think I will find it and if he caught me, I'm sure he won't be happy.
It takes a few more minutes until I finally makes a decision, and I sit up on the couch and tip-toe over to the drawer. I open them one after one as quietly as possible, but I don't find anything of value. Only clothes, clothes and more clothes. I dig through them in hope of finding something hidden, but there's no luck and I sigh and close the last drawer again. My head bounce from side to side as I look through the room. My eyes lands on the shelf and I quickly hurry over to it and starts going through all the books and stuffs on it.
Once I am halfway through, a deep voice makes me freeze in my motion.
"What the hell?", Nick says angrily and I slowly turn my head to face him at the same time I start back as far away from him as possible.
"What do you think you're doing?", he says with untidy hair as he takes off the blanket and sits up straight.
"I-I'm...", I stutter and takes a deep breath, "I am looking for something to help me get out of here, what else? You think I want to read any of your stupid books?"
He sighs and rests his elbows on his knees as he looks at me with a serious face. "I think it's time you learn the rules."
I look at him with my mouth open. "Rules? Are you freaking serious?"
"No trying to escape", he begins to say slowly, "no backtalk and most importantly, no disobeying. You do as I tell you, got it?"
I feel as I almost want to laugh. Does he really expect me to listen to him? After being kidnapped, dragged away from my life? I don't even know why I am here.
"Got it?", he repeats when I don't answer him. I look down at my feet, my hair falling down in front of my face as a shield.
"Look at me when I talk to you, and answer me." By the tone of his voice, I understand he starts to get impatient and with a few steps, he stands in front of me and lifts up my chin. Forcing me to look him straight in the eyes by putting each of his hands on my cheeks in a firm grip.
My icy cold blue eyes stare into his dark, almost black, ones.
"It almost feels as you trying to kill me with that gaze", Nick says with a tone now mixed with seriousness and amusement.
"Why can't I just go home?", I ask, not pleading.
"Because I don't want you to, and it's my will you are going to follow." I scoff at his words and turn my head to the side, getting out of his grip. He let me go and then gazing my full body, from head to toe.
"You can go take a shower, you look exhausted."
I don't only look exhausted, I am. Normally, a shower would be nice but under the circumstances, I rather stay where I am. Who knows what may happen. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want to take the change.
