Abigail and Roselitta walked toward the bus in silence. They kept looking at each other, but never did their eyes meet. When they neared Roselitta's home, they gathered up their stuff. As they exited the bus and started to her house, Abigail finally asked, "Why can't we use that song?" Roselitta didn't answer her. Abigail just looked down at her feet. They walked the block in silence, one in confusion and the other in secret. They got to Roselitta's house and started up the stairs. As they approached her room, Abigail stopped walking. Roselitta looked at her expectantly and nodded her head yes.
Instantly Abigail had a big smile on her face. They bolted into Roselitta's room, but instead of sitting their stuff down and talking, they clasped the buckles on their backpacks and grabbed the flashlights hidden under Roselitta's pillow. They grabbed 2 pre-made lunches from her mini fridge and ran to the closet. They went to the left of the closet and ducked behind the dresser. There was a little spot behind it that led to a big hole in the wall they found when they were 6 years old while playing hide and seek, and since they are now 13, you can imagine how hard it is to get into the hole now. They had immediately started renovating it, trying to make it into a bedroom, in case Roselitta's parents had another kid and then made her share a room with it. Eventually, they decided it was going to be a secret room until her parents had another child.
"So what's up?" Abigail questioned. "Why CAN'T you use that song?"
"It has special meaning to me," Roselitta said. "I put a lot of effort into this song, but I'm not quite finished with it."
"OHOOOOOO!!!!! Is it about a...BOY???" This question pierced Roselitta's heart as soon as it was asked. Although her best friend, Abigail wasn't the EASIEST to talk to about boys. "Well?" Abigail began questioning once more. "Is it?"
Roselitta blushed with embarrassment and dropped her eyes from Abigail's gaze. "I don't know what you're talking about," Roselitta lied badly. Besides, she thought to herself, it's none of her concern anyhow.
"Rosie," Abigail said sweetly, putting her hand on Roselitta's shoulder. "I know you too well. You would NEVER write a song without being inspired. You've always said that if you weren't inspired, you'd consider it cheating. And if you DID have a boy, it WOULD be my concern." It was as if Abigail could read her mind. Although, that's how it's always been.
"I have a different song I want to sing, anyway," Roselitta said, although not so certain of herself.
"OHOOO!!! DO tell!!!!" Abigail persisted enthusiastically.
"....I...I...I," Roselitta stuttered.
"Well go on," Abigail still kept pushing. There was a brief pause as Roselitta pulled her songbook from her bag and started flipping pages to try and find the song she was after.
