Prologue

Five years ago....

Natsu stopped in front of the ruined temple. It was once a sacrificial alter dedicated to Zeref and his demons.

"Natsu?"
Natsu's head turned sharply to the left at the unmistakable voice belonging to Zeref. His tone was that of a big brother speaking to his younger sibling, a tone that utterly disgusted Natsu. What right did Zeref have to speak to him like that?

"Natsu, why have you come?" And just like that, his voice became cold. "I'm here....on behalf of Fairy Tail. I've come to stop you."

"You can't be serious."
"I'm dead serious." Flames blanketed Natsu's lower body.
"You already had your chance. It's hopeless now. You won't be able to beat me." Zeref sounded utterly amused by Natsu's silly decision to face him.

"I will. I have to. So Fairy Tail....and all the guilds....and all the wizards....can live in peace once more. Your reign is over, Zeref. You and your demons are doomed."

Zeref finally stepped out into the light. His eyes glowed crimson red, his hands clenched in an angry fist. "You think you can stop me?" Natsu stayed silent.
"Then give me your best shot."
He lunged forward.
