It was a somewhat normal day... Haruhi, Hikaru, Kaoru, and I were all in class... but it turns out all the afternoon classes were canceled.
"What? All the afternoon classes are canceled?" Haruhi questions some girls.
"You mean no one told you?" One girl questions.
"It's going to be crazy around here for the next few days." The other girl replies.
"Ouran is hosting an exposition for the cultural clubs, drawn by the choir clubs from a bunch of other schools have been invited. It's a big event the school hosts annually." The first girl explains.
"Is that so?" Haruhi question quietly. There was another conversation that caught my attention more, though.
"What?! You've never tried it!?" I hear the twins exclaim in sync, which makes me look over to them.
"Didn't anyone tell you that's it the preferred drink of the host club?" Hikaru questions Renge, who held a cloth to her face while sweating nervously.
"And you are our manager, so you should drink it too." Kaoru adds, which only makes Renge more nervous.
"I-I think I've heard of instant coffee before... Oh! That's right! Isn't that when the coffee beans have already been grounded for you?" Renge replies, only to squeal in surprise as they twins make a loud 'eh' noise, their arms crossed in X's.
"That's just ground coffee. Instant is something completely different. I don't think there are even any coffee beans in instant coffee. You just mix this powder with hot water and then drink it! You don't have to brew it- it's pretty awesome." Hikaru explains. Hehe... it's so cute how hyped he is over coffee.
"So, basically, it's just like coffee, just not as robust." Kaoru sums up.
"And yet it's strangely satisfying..." Hikaru mumbles. I smile slightly.
"Now that you mention it, we just ran out of it, didn't we?" Kaoru questions. Oh no... they're going to force Haruhi and I to get it, aren't they? They then turn around, notice me, and each put a hand on my shoulders.
"Go buy us some more, (Y/N), Haruhi." Hikaru and Kaoru command in unison. Haruhi frowns, an etch mark on her head.
"Why do we have to go get it?" Haruhi questions as Kaoru goes and ruffles her hair.
"Because you two are the only commoners, no one else knows where to buy it." Hikaru replies.
"We've even been serving it to our guests lately, and, besides, it's part of both of your jobs." Kaoru adds.
"But the cultural club exposition starts soon." Haruhi replies. The twins sigh.
"(Y/N), can you just go? The exposition isn't mandatory, so it won't affect your grades." The twins say, smiling. I nod.
"Sure, if that's what you'd like me to do." I reply, walking out the door. As I walk out, I stop, then sweat-drop. I sound so much like a freaking maid... As I sigh, I hear a few footsteps, which makes me turn to see who it is. To my surprise, it's the girls Haruhi was talking to earlier.
"Thanks for helping them out, (Y/N)." The one with shorter, darker hair says. I smile a little.
"It's no problem... I just sometimes wish they would learn to do things on their own... but I don't mind all that much." I reply, looking at the two.
"Well... we both know that that might never happen, but they are having a great time... and, unfortunately to the rest of us girls, it's all thanks to you." The one with longer, lighter hair, and two bows says. I raise an eyebrow.
"Unfortunately for you girls?" I question, glancing at the two. As I look at them closer, my eyes widen a bit. "Wait... weren't you two, in middle school, always in the same class as the twins and I? I mean, I was only there for two years... but still." I add. They nod.
"Yup. It as kind of odd to watch those two go through such drastic changes, and all because of you. I still remember when they weren't nearly as cheerful and friendly. They were so quiet and withdrawn. They didn't have any friends; it was like they didn't want anyone to get to close. I don't think they had liked school to much, they seemed so bored by it." The one with longer hair replies.
"Yeah, then, at some point near to the end of first year, you changed them. My guess is you can tell them apart... they became happier, and, well, the rest of us girls became that much more jealous. You were this perfect girl, with perfect grades- and... we're sorry for ever picking on you. I know we weren't as bad as the others, but none of us think you're really anything we say." The shorter haired one explains.
"Yeah, we were all just jealous of how close you got and how fast... it was kind of painful to hear you left because of the stuff all of us girls pulled on you. It... also made the twin's situation that much worse. They isolated themselves even more, were that even harsher to girls that confessed to Hikaru, and just seemed even more gloomy in general. You leaving really took a toll on them..." The longer haired girl says.
"I had that much of an effect on them?" I question, eyes widening slightly. I had no idea... but I felt the same way about having to leave them. It was... pretty painful.
"Yeah... but then stuff started to turn for the better since the host club was created. Since then, they've slowly started to reemerge from their shells, little by little. You coming back... well, that sped up the process a lot more than you'd think." The short-haired girl says.
"Sorry we're distracting you so much, you still need to get the coffee. Anyway, we just wanted to say that we're sorry, but also thank you. The twins wouldn't be the happy way they are without you..." The long-haired girl finishes. I nod, then walk away.
They're... sorry and jealous? Renge was... right since she got here? The girls didn't like me befriending the twins, at first, so they beat me down for it? But then they saw how I affected them, and now some are apologizing?
Jeez... everyone's emotions are off the hinges. I'll just blame puberty, emotions, pressure, and all that nice junk for the problems I've ever had with anyone. Not that I'll continue to allow them to do it- but I will understand, more so.
You know, I'm happy I'm not rich. I'm happy I don't have to be laid upon the pressure of running a huge company. I'm thankful I don't have to work at something I despise. I value the freedom us commoners have.
Anyway, I need to go.
