Chapter Two

Tune gasped for breath, trying to reach for anything that could release him from the firm grasp the freezing water had. He saw the shore and started to swim to it. He lay down on the moist sand, his body soaked with the icy water.
All was quiet except for his own heart pounding in his ears.
He slowly got up, his heart beat calming down, he saw his hat on the shore and quickly grabbed it(and even though it was covered with sand) placed it on his soaking hair and started walking through the rainforest in his rubber soled shoes. Looking about his surroundings.
"Heya!" an unfamiliar cheerful voice greeted as two hands grabbed the map out of Tune's satchel.
"Hey!" Tune protested, trying to pry the map away. Tune grunted, and the next moment held the map triumphantly in his hands.
"Hey! I /need/ that map!" the person protested trying to grab it back but ended up falling from the mangrove tree. "Ow."
Tune laughed, "Yeah? Well, unfortunately for you, you're not going to get it!"
The boy growled and tackled Tune, taking him by surprise and grabbing it back. "Now," the boy smirked condescendingly. "What were you sayi-HEY!"
Tune snatched it back and started running to a strong dense vine as he was about to leave the ground, but the other boy caught up and dragged him down.
"Let... go of me!" Tune grunted, trying to kick him off.
"First, give me the map!" the other said.
"Never!" Tune proclaimed. And with that the boy took it and started sprinting the opposite direction.
"Hey! Come back with my map!" Tune called, trying to keep up.
"HAHAHA! YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME NOW!" he said, then looked down.He was stuck.
In quicksand.
"Now, what were you saying?" Tune said in mock condescension.
"Haha, very funny," he said unamused.
"It is," Tune smirked.
He sighed, "Just get me outta here!"
"Okay," he agreed. "But let me strike a deal with you. If I save you from death by sand, you'll give me back the Map Of a Million Trees and help lead me to the temple."
"Nope, not happening," he said.
"Fine, I'll just wait here," Tune responded, sitting down and getting comfortable. The boy kept squirming around, trying to get out of reach of the sand. But every time he moved he was dragged deeper into the hole he was in.
The boy sighed, "It's a deal."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Tune replied, "What was that?"
"I- agree- to- the- deal," he repeated, exasperated.
"Can you repeat that?" Tune said, pretending to get sand out of his ear.
"I AGREE TO THE DEA-"
"Okay, sheesh, no need to be so obnoxious," Tune stated, he got a vine and cut it and threw it to the lad. He grabbed it and Tune tried to haul him out of the sand.
"Pull harder!" he shouted.
"I can't!" Tune retorted. "It's not /my/ fault that you're so fat!"
And then Tune jerked the vine as hard as he could and the boy came flying out of the sand.
Trampling Tune.
"Get /off/ of me!" Tune exclaimed.
"Oh, sorry!" he said, quickly getting off of him. "Here..." he handed Tune the map. Tune quickly snatched it and looked to make sure it wasn't a trick.
"Okay, thanks..." Tune replied, putting it back in his satchel and walking off, leaving the other one to try and catch up.
"Hey, what brings you here anyway?" the boy asked.
"I'm out looking for The Lost Idol," Tune answered, then turned to him. "Why do you want the map?"
"I'm out seeking redemption," he replied, his head slightly down now.
"Redemption?" Tune echoed. "For what?"
"For not being enough," he responded, looking back at Tune. His eyes filled with something Tune hasn't seen in a while.
Tune did not push further.
The boy regained his composure, "You know... it would be easier to travel if we went up that tree. And then we can travel from above from there without having to go through all this undergrowth."
"Do I \look\ like a monkey?" Tune asked.
"Well," the boy said. "Now that you brought it up..."
Tune playfully punched him in the shoulder.
"Ow," he grunted, rubbing his arm. Tune rolled his eyes.
"Come on, let's go then," Tune said, trailing behind the excited adolescent.
