I let out a deep sigh as the last bell of the day rang. I can't believe Nate had the nerve to come here after what he has done.
"Look, here comes little miss screw up!" I turned my head to see a group of people laughing.
What a surprise, Nate was at the center of them.
I kept my head down and kept walking not wanting to bother with any more drama.
"What? Is our little screw up speechless?" Nate asked laughing.
I just kept walking, if I didn't react they wouldn't get what they were looking for. I walked a couple more feet before I felt something hit my back.
I turned around to see Nate holding a water balloon in his hand. Before I had a chance to say anything I was drenched with water. I turned around, yet again, to see two freshmen set down a rather large bucket so they could high five each other.
I ignored the laughter coming from the crowd that had gathered and picked up my pace. Tears stung the back of my eyes but I held them in not wanting to give them the satisfaction of bringing me to tears.
"I don't think it rained at all today, why are you so wet?" Nate laughed blocking my path.
"Move," I mumbled keeping my head down.
"Make me." Nate snapped.
I sighed and went to walk around him, but that didn't work. I turned around and my path was blocked yet again.
"What do you want?" I sighed.
"To make your life as miserable as possible," Nate stated.
"Why?" I questioned already knowing the answer.
"You know why," Nate said glaring at me.
"That wasn't my fault," I told him.
I fought to hold back tears as memories ran through my head.
"Oh really? Who's was it then?" Nate snapped.
"Just leave me alone," I said trying to push past him.
"Why should I?" Nate said pushing me back.
Why can't he just leave me alone? Hasn't he done enough?
"Hey dude, back off." I had never been happier to see Adam.
"April and I are just having a conversation, isn't that right April?" Nate asked.
I kept my head down not knowing what to say.
"Well, April and I are leaving now," Adam said pulling me past Nate.
"We're not through talking." Nate snapped grabbing my free arm.
"I think you are," Adam replied yanking his hand off me.
I followed Adam trying to ignore the stares, but how could I. I just wanted so badly to have a normal life here and I get the exact opposite. Here I am walking next to Adam Smith while I am soaking wet and getting glares from everyone. How did I end up here?
I shivered slightly as the wind picked up.
"You must be freezing, here." Adam said handing me his jacket.
I quickly declined his offer and began walking faster wanting more than anything to just be home curled up under my covers.
"Why don't we stop at my house and get you some fresh clothes? It's just around the corner and really is starting to get rather cold." Adam suggested.
"It's okay, I'm fine," I said just before I shivered again.
"Yeah, my house it is," Adam said pulling me down the street.
Great, just great.
Adam's POV:
Yes! School is out!
I walk out the front doors only to find my path blocked by a rather large crowd that had gathered in front of the school. I slowly push my way through the crowd, getting to the front just in time to see two freshmen put down a bucket and high five each other. Standing in front of them was a poor girl completely drenched. So that's what the bucket was for.
I turn my attention to the girl and it just so happens to be April. Why can't Dean just leave her alone? This has gone too far.
"Move," April mumbled.
"Make me," someone snapped back.
Okay, so it is not Dean this time.
I heard April sigh and try to walk around whoever was standing in front of her, but that didn't seem to work. I finally see that the new guy, who had claimed to be April's boyfriend, is standing in front of her.
"What do you want?" April sighed clearly holding back tears.
"To make your life as miserable as possible," the boy stated.
"Why?" April asked as if she already knew the answer.
"You know why," the boy said giving her a deadly glare.
What could she have possibly done to deserve this?
"That wasn't my fault," April replied fighting to hold her tears back.
"Oh really? Who's was it then?" The boy snapped.
Why is he such a jerk? Can't he see that he has already won, he humiliated her and has her fighting back tears. Why won't he just drop it?
"Just leave me alone," April said trying to push past the boy.
"Why should I?" The boy questioned pushing her back.
Okay, that's it!
"Hey dude, back off," I said angrily stepping in between him and April.
"April and I are just having a conversation, isn't that right April?" The boy asked her.
April just stared down at her feet not replying. "Just a conversation." I'm not stupid, this show is over.
"Well, April and I are leaving now," I said grabbing April's arm and pulling her past the boy.
"We're not through talking," the boy snapped grabbing her other arm.
This "conversation" is over.
"I think you are," I replied rather harshly yanking his arm off of April's.
With that, I led April out of the crowd. I could feel peoples' eyes watching us and i could tell it bothered April. All could do was just keep walking.
The wind picked up slightly causing April to shiver.
"You must be freezing, here," I said handing her my jacket, but she quickly declined my offer.
All she had was her soaking wet clothes that were only making her colder, why wouldn't she take my jacket?
It was a rather long walk back to her house and it probably isn't the best idea since she is soaking wet and the wind is really beginning to pick up.
"Why don't we stop at my house and get you some fresh clothes? It's just around the corner and really is starting to get rather cold." I suggested knowing the soon she got into warm, dry clothes the better.
"It's okay, I'm fine," she said shivering again.
I wasn't taking no for an answer.
"Yeah, my house it is," I said pulling her down the street.
