Chapter 1

"Mom! Dad! Where are we going? Where is this place?"

I asked but got no response, I was walking behind them, and I could sense the fear and the excitement in them all at the same time. They were walking hand in hand together and I never felt so distant from them in my whole life. I looked around as we walked into a fog invaded path. It was deserted, I heard no sounds and there was very little light. The atmosphere dull and serene but the desertion threatening and ominous. I lavished at the smells that filled my lungs and provided me with a sense of awe. They were approaching a bridge; I could tell where it started but I couldn't tell where it ended. It seemed like a dream but to them I could tell that it was real. When we finally got to the bridge, a strange figure stood there as if he was guarding an entrance.

"Halt!" I froze at the sudden stern voice filled with authority. My parents looked quizzically at the guard who was surprisingly pointing in my direction.

"You! What are you doing here?!" He shouted. I opened my mouth but the words were trapped in my throat. What should I say? I don't even know where I am. Let alone who this guy was.

"Go back!" His voice laced with authority.

"Why!? And go back where?" The words escaped my lips without premeditation.

"It's not your time!" He spat.

He wore a white toga and he held a sort of spear. I wondered what kinds of dangers lurched around here for him to need that sort of weapon.

"Not my time...?"

He stood up there and looked straight in front of him with a straight face. He ignored me. I guess I had to leave but why? I looked at my parents and they said nothing.

"Both of you!" He said pointing to my parents.

"It's time..." He added emotionlessly.

Uh? What was going on? They aren't going to leave me here alone, are they?

Here I am, bewildered. This situation is beginning to become ambiguous. My jaw dropped when I saw my parents walking towards the bridge.

This couldn't be...What in heaven's name! No pun intended.

My dad was the first to stop, and look back at me and my mom turned around after, wiping her tears away. Turning to me, my dad spoke.

"Sweetheart we have to go now."

My dad said to me as if he was fighting the knot in his throat, trying to fight the tears. My mom grabbed, held and gave me the tightest hug a mom could ever give her child. Tears slowly ran down both my cheeks, it was as if I knew this was the last time I would ever get to hold them. My mom took her soft hands and held them against my cheeks; she wiped my tears away with her thumbs and gave me a kiss on my forehead.

"My sweet girl we will always be watching over you, but you have to go back now, it's not your time."

She said to me with her soft voice. My dad rested one hand on my shoulder and the other one held my cheek.

"We love you so much. Don't you ever forget that. Goodbye princess."

He said as they turned back towards the bridge, they looked at each other and they entwined their fingers together as they took their first step on the bridge. Suddenly there was a bright luminescent light shining through the fog on the bridge, they walked through it.

I stood there like a lost little girl. My parents deliberately left me. I turned around and sighed. My heart paralyzed by the shock it just received.

When I took my first step, towards the bridge, my whole body was frozen by a painful shock that sent me straight to the ground. I stayed there for a few seconds until another painful shock penetrated my body and left me groaning on the floor calling out to my parents but by that time...

The fog.

The bridge.

The bright light ...

Everything was gone.

It was dark, I started hearing voices.

"I just called the coroner the parents are gone, what about her?" Another voice replied to him in a frail tone

"We don't know yet, but we're not going to give up on her she deserves a fighting chance"

I heard a woman's voice.

"Eric are you ready? I just recharged it."

Ready for what...? The whole scenery changed, I was in an ambulance, I could see them but they could not see me.
