Andy’s Pov:
Putting on my red collar shirt and throwing on my kicks, it’s another day at work for me. Its 11:36 and I have to be at work by 12. I drop Tommy off at the YMCA on my way so he can have some play time with his buddies until Carrie picks him up after work around 5. My work schedule is pretty much set working Monday through Friday from 12-6.
Mr. Chao gives me the weekends off because he says kids are supposed to be out having fun and working should only be a part time thing. I don’t know if he notice, but I don’t really have much friends. As a matter of fact, I don’t have friends at all besides Tommy who is my best buddy.
I know a few of the neighborhood kids around our apartment, but I don’t hang out with people my age. Not that I don’t want any friends, but I don’t want to get too close to anyone. One minute they are here and the next they are gone so what’s the point.
Ever since Millie died, I didn’t feel the need to make anymore friends. Stupid thing to consider, but I figure that’s the only way to keep myself safe from having an emotional breakdown. Besides, girls my age don’t bother talking to me anyways and I’m fine with that.
Taking a look in the mirror to make sure I look decent for work, I brush through my long brown hair and threw it half up. I’m not the girly girl pink loving type, but I’m not a tomboy either. Like most girls, I like to wear nice things, but I don’t parade myself in heels and a fancy Chanel handbag with a chi-wah-wah in my hand. Nope, I just like to keep my style simple.
Carrie taught me how to do my make up naturally so I don’t look like a cake face with colorful frostings. She said all I need is mascara to define my lashes, thin eyeliner for the top of my lids, a dab of blush to bring out my cheek bones and chap stick so my lips looks nice and clean.
Grabbing my phone and sticking my iTouch in my jean pocket, I grab my purse and made my way out of my room. I splurge on myself from time to time because I think I deserve too. I bought Tommy an iTouch for his birthday and the boy is stuck on that thing like superglue.
“Tommy you almost ready? We have to go” I shouted to him
“Just a second” Tommy screams back
“What are you doing?” I said peeking my head in his bedroom and shoving a glazed donut in my mouth
“I’m trying to find my head phones. I don’t know where I put them”… He’s running around in his room making a mess trying to find those things. Poor kid!
“Here, you can have my extra one. Don’t lose them okay?”
“Aw thanks Andy. You’re the best!”
“No problem, now come on we gotta go. Want a donut before I eat them all?” I said with my mouth full
“No thanks. They give us snacks at the YMCA”
We both walked out the front door, shut it behind us and I locked it. We don’t live in the worse neighborhood, but it isn’t the nicest either. Everyone here basically knows each other, but you can never be too safe. Besides, nobody leaves their place unlock anyways.
We walk down the flight of stairs from our apartment and came out into the sunlight. It’s nice and warm out just how summer is supposed to be in L.A. I swung the long strap of my purse around myself and put on my headset with music playing to my ears. Tommy did the same with his!
“What are you listening there to bud?” I asked looking down at Tommy
“Lupe Fiasco. His album is sick” he says bopping his head to the music
