Halloween's Secret City

Chapter 1

"Hey, what's your name?"

A gothic girl asked.

"My name is.. Kathryn." I replied, turning my head to look at her, then looked at the floor, "I'm new here.."

"I can tell." The gothic girl put her books down and turned to me, "I'm Lacie." She didn't look like a Lacie.. Well I didn't think so, anyway. Why was she talking to me? Who would want to talk to a dorky kid like me? I smiled uncomfortably then looked away. There were three girls signaling me to come over to where they were, why? They seemed popular, I was SO not.

"One.. One second." I stuttered, Lacie nodded her head and sighed.

I walked over to the three girls, "Haha hi.. Um, I'm Kathryn!" I clenched my teeth into a smile and let them shake my hand. They looked at me like I was something green that started growing on the wall. They looked at me like they just realized I was one of those weird kids. The girl in the middle sighed and lowered my hand, "Anyways.. Just stay away from that girl over there." She smirked, "She's hiding something. No one knows what it is, but whatever you do, AVOID her at ALL costs." Her straight face quickly turned into a smile, "Bye!" Her and her friends walked away all sassy like.

I slowly turned my head behind me, wondering if Lacie saw the whole thing. Lacie was caught staring and quickly turned her head and opened a book. I awkwardly walked over to Lacie, not caring what those three girls thought of her. Lacie stared at the book, pretending she didn't know I was beside her, then sighed. She closed her eyes and put the book down, then opened her eyes again.

"What did they tell you?" Her head turned to look at me, she looked upset.

I searched my mind for a lie, and picked one out, "They were just.. Welcoming me to the school! Heh.. Yeah! That's what they were doing..."

My face turned red.

"I can tell that's a lie." Lacie sat down, "I know what they said, too. They said for you not to come around me, didn't they?" She lowered her head and sighed quietly.

"...Yes." I sat down in my seat next to her and sighed, "Sorry for lying."

"I don't care.." She spoke, "It doesn't matter. Where I come from, there's liars everywhere.." She was calm, until her eyes widened and she started to gasp and stutter, "I mean, at my HOME.. Hahaha.. NOT where I come from.." She panicked.

It sounded suspicious. What did she mean? Where she.. Came from? Was she an alien or something? I knew she was trying to clear up a lie.. I needed to find out what she was talking about. Is this what the popular girls were suspecting? Something about.. Her being different.. Hiding something? I was new to this school, and all this mystery suddenly just started. I definitely needed to find out what was going on.

And fast.
