Painful Reminder

"It is quite a night, isn't it Onee-chan?" Rukia said as we were strolling in the garden. I'm sure Hisana would ask the same thing.

Onee-chan... Akane used to call me that. Her one and only Onee-chan...

"The moon is beautiful tonight," I said. True enough but this was the same moon that pains me. This was the same kind of night back when Akane died and the same one before Hisana died followed by the day of her death. I hated it somehow.

Rukia stood beside me, gazing up at the heavens just like how Akane used to do whenever she arrives home at a late hour.

"Why do you always look at the moon?" Akane would always ask. I never gave her an answer. Here I am. Still looking up to it's greatness.

How could anyone not avoid the moon in the night sky?

"Onee-chan..." Rukia murmured. I looked at her insisting her to go on. "It's funny how you only look at the moon," she said.

     "Why is that?"

"Because it's the only thing you notice out of the countless stars in the sky," was her answer. It took me a while to remember that Akane loved the stars as much as I loved the moon.

"Do you see that little bulb of light," Akane pointed out into one small speck of light surrounded by darkness. "That's my favorite."

That star was long gone now. And so was she. "Let's go inside, Rukia," I said, my heart silently sinking into a sea of emotion behind this placid face of mine. If I stay much longer, I may not be able to hold back my tears. I can't show that to Rukia. Not even to anybody else. Losing my sister was just as hard as losing the woman I've loved.

I took Rukia in as a vow of renewal as a big brother and a favorable promise as a spouse. I adopted her into the Kuchiki Clan as a reminder of both Akane and Hisana. But it just doubled the pain I used to have. The way I've kept protecting Rukia and kept her alive... was what I should have done a long time ago.

Hey guys! How do you like it so far? Urrgh... I really hope it was interesting. Sorry it's short. I'd like to keep it this way for now. Ta-ta.
