*Lucas POV*
Mr. Matthews class had just ended, meaning we had a free period.
Riley, Farkle, Maya and I all met by the lockers, as usual.
"So, what're we doing today?" I asked everyone.
"I got nothing." Maya said.
"Well, Me and Riley have a project that we need to work on in the library."
"Its a third of our grade, so we cant mess it up!" Riley said anxiously.
"Oh. So, Me and Maya?" I said, looking at Maya.
"For now..." Riley said, looking at both of us as though she were trying to figure something out.
"Catch you guys, later." Farkle said, as him and Riley turned and headed towards the library.
"So Huckleberry, what are we doin'?" Maya asked.
"I don't know, what do you feel like doing?"
"I...don't know." She said blankly.
"We could, go down to the football field, maybe run and around a bit? I said.
"That sounds promising..." She said.
We both turned and walked through the halls.
I was very nervous, yet excited to be with Maya.
We had never been alone before.
But, there were a few things I wanted too ask her.
*Riley's POV*
I was very upset to leave Maya and Lucas alone, but I needed an A on this project.
I had focused on the project, but my mind did drift elsewhere.
What if they kiss?
What if they tell each other they like each other?
What if they DO like each other?
My mind was spinning everywhere, but I tried to stay calm.
"So, maybe if we do--"
"Hey, Farkle?" I asked, interrupting him.
"Uh, what?"
"Do you think, I don't know, maybe Maya likes Lucas?" I asked, hoping for a no.
"Riley, the project?"
"I know, but I just want an answer."
Farkle was then silent.
"Look, I want to focus on the project right now." He said, looking down.
"Okay..."
So we continued the project, but I couldn't help but think that maybe that wasn't the real reason he wouldn't answer the question.
*Mayas POV*
"Hike!" I yelled, throwing the football through the field goal.
"That's not how a hike works!" Lucas laughed.
"Like I care!" I laughed back.
It felt like a breath of fresh air to just, have fun with him.
It sort of distracted me from my pathetic emotions.
After 10 fun minutes of playing, we decided to sit down.
We laid down on the grass, staring up at the cloudy sky.
"So what's on your mind right now, Huckleberry?" I asked him, looking at a pretty cloud.
"Nothing really, actually. Just school, the moment, you know?" He answered.
"Nice topics." I said. I admired his answers, wishing I could think like that.
"What's been on your mind?" He asked, looking at me.
I was hoping he wouldn't ask that.
"Nothing." I replied swiftly.
He stared at me.
"You sure?" He asked, as I looked away.
"Positive." I said.
Smile.
"Maya, its just...you've been seeming kind of...down...lately." He said.
Ugh. Why does he care?
Actually, why does he care?
"I don't know what your talking about." I said calmly.
I really did want to tell him, honestly. But I couldn't. It would mess everything up. And besides, Lucas didn't need to be involved in my stupid problems.
He was quiet for a second.
"Okay..." He said, sounding unsure.
"We should probably get back now." I said, changing the subject.
"Yoiur right. This was fun though." He said, smiling.
"Yeah." I replied.
We then walked back.
But the same question was on my mind.
Why does he care?
Could it be...?
Ya right. If only..."
But if only I knew.
*TIME SKIP: 4 HOURS LATER*
*Still Maya*
I sat on my bed again, considering making new scars.
But I decided i was too tired.
Maybe I should go to sleep.
But for some reason, I couldn't help but wonder.
Why would Lucas really care?
Is it possible, that he may have feelings for me.
I slapped myself.
Maya, your stupid. He likes Riley, and she's much better then you, so stop trying.
I felt tears coming on, but there was a part of me that felt it.
That may be true, but maybe there is a chance.
And with that, I closed my eyes.
