The tears in my eyes slid across my face faster than the rain on my helmet. I was driving to Camilla. I needed to see her. Even if it was for the last time.
As I drove into the hospital parking lot, I dropped everything. My helmet, my motorbike, and my life-less everyday attitude and ran inside.
Panicking, I hurried from room to room to find her. 243, 244, 245... 246.As I opened the door, I saw the state of her. She had a black eye and her body seemed to be covered in several casts. She wasn't awake. I stood there, staring, until a nurse walked by.
"She's awake. Don't worry. She'll be okay."
I sighed with relief and sat in the chair next to her. I missed her beautiful blue eyes. I covered my face with my hands. How could I let this happen? How was I so stupid? How?
"You came."
I jumped to the sound of her voice. Thank god. Her face was bruised, but every-time she smiled the bright light of happiness would shine through the cracks in her teeth.
"Of course I came. What happened?"
She gulped.
"Well, I was driving. It was getting dark and I... I saw something."
"What?"
"Someone in the back seat. She had black hair and she was ... Smiling."Rebecca.
"I'll be fine."
Her hand reached towards mine. I held it.
"Go."
She instructed.
I followed.
I didn't kiss her. I thought it would bring her harm. It would hurt. Ironic.I drove back. It was light, I had driven all through the night. It was morning, however it was foggy and cold. I hate those mornings. On the way, I couldn't help but to think that I forgot something. Something important.
I was heading down a bridge, when I saw a girl standing towards the edge. I could barely see her through the fog. She looked so isolated, there aren't any neighbourhoods for miles.
I stopped.
Coming up to her, she was wearing white dress. No shoes. And she had a cross around her neck. Her hair was black. Jet black.Rebecca.
I roughly turned her around to face me.
"Is she dead?" She asked me.
"No."
"Aww. She'll be dead by the time Bruce gets to her."
"What?"
"Their abusive relationship may get too far, you know. He beat her. But the whore was used to it, after her dad's belt."
"What the hell, Rebecca. You don't fucking jo-"
"Joke about that? Why? You're a joke, she's a joke. We're all just playing."
"What?"She sighed, walking closer to the edge.
"We weren't actually going to kill her, we were just playing."
"So you were playing with me too? The drinking, the nights, the sex, the feelings. They were just a game? It wasn't real, was it?"She turned to me.
"No. You were genuine."
Her hands cupped my face.
"You were real. I meant every word I said to you. You were so loving. You cared. But you didn't care enough to wait for me after I died."
I laughed,
"Because I thought you were dead, you bitch."
She smiled."You know, you made me better. I 'died' to take care of the unfinished business, so that we can be together, in peace."
"Camilla isn't unfinished business."
"Camilla is a waste of air compared to my love for you. I'll get you anything you want."
Her pale expression made me want to puke.
"Anything?"
"Anything."
I slowly moved closer towards her, pressing my lips onto her cold ones. I pulled away even slower and whispered into her ear.
"Then give me freedom."
My rough hands hit her shoulder blades, making her bony body stumble over the edge.
She didn't fight back, because she knew she was going to die eventually. Her body fell into the water like a feather."I love you."
She screamed.I knew Rebecca was gentle on the inside. But I couldn't let her keep ruining everything on the outside. I didn't love Rebecca anymore. I could never.
I love Camilla.I love Camilla.
I love her.
That's it.
That's the thing that's been bothering me. I never said that I loved her. She felt it but I never said it. This can't be happening. I jumped onto my motorbike, and began driving back. I have to get there in time before Bruce begins to talk her up again. She has to know. I'm such an idiot.
I got there, running through security, I got through a couple of nurses and doctors yelling
"Visiting hours have finished!" And, "You shouldn't be here!" But I didn't care. I had to see her. One last time.I ran into room 246. Panting, I said those simple three words
