Believe, Dream, Inspire
Julie Anne Howard is the name. Sixteen years old, born and raised in Dublin, NC. When I was four years old I was diagnosed with Leukemia. Growing up in a small town, the medicine supplies was not the best and it took almost three years to get rid of my Leukemia and even then it wasn’t fully removed. About nine years later I was diagnosed again. This time one hundred times worse. It had spread in my body even quicker because of my poor immune system. It was spreading all throughout my body and was about to spread to my brain so I had to be hospitalized immediately. Being a cancer is tough and it’s a bumpy ride but I’m determined to make it through again and live my dream.
Growing up I had always wanted to become a professional singer. Don’t ask me why I just always enjoyed it and the thrill of being on stage is inspiring to me. Seeing all the smiling faces and the cheers, when I first performed the Sound of Music in third grade I knew I wanted to pursue that career. My major influences: Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and this particular band known as One Direction. Growing up in a small town in the country, country music has played a major part of my life but just like any other teenage girl I listen to teenage boy bands sometimes too. You have to learn to live a little like a teenager sometimes. They are the reason I try to survive because the treatment for Leukemia is long and painful.
When I was fifteen and a half I got the chance to go to Nashville to try and pursue my career but then my cancer got in the way and we couldn’t leave. But because of the lack of treatment in Dublin I had to transfer over to Nashville’s hospital. It’s not the real reason I wanted to go to Nashville but it works too. While I was in the hospital I would make these covers of me singing songs like Jesus, Take the Wheel, Speak Now and Moments. After about three months in Nashville of making covers I was noticed by the “public” and my story got around. Being told by person after person about my small story eventually word got to one of my biggest idols, One Direction. That’s where my story begins…
