It was freezing that winter, snow had come and gone and now the chill was edging off the breeze, but it was still cold enough to not stay out too long.
After Christmas dinner the whole family went out for another laborious walk over the mountain to give presents to the only other people in the mountains, well that's what I thought.
While we were walking ma came over to me, stopping her convisation abruptly with granddad like she did.
"You OK sweety?" She asked,"Its just you look a but down.",tilting her head to one side.
"Yeah I'm fine, don't bother about me,you just be happy while it lasts"
My Ma had depression, these days it was getting worse, Christmas was one of her 'OK' days, if I needed anything would just turn to dad, it was just easier than seeing her so down and getting sad my self.
The frost was still around so we took the track along side the egdge of the forest. After a while of listening in on various conversations and back turned to us, me and my brother Sien were very bored.
'Hey si', I nugged him,'you wanna sneak off and play in the woods?'
His normal calm about him went and was replaced with a fearful look.'you know we're not suppose to,somthing bad might happen. You haven't been listening to dad have you...'
'Quit worrying and stop being a wimp. It'll be fine, they wont even know we've gone' I said grabbing his hand and starting to run the opposite way into the woods.
