i walk into the coffee shop across the street from my apartment at around 9am.
immediately, i'm greeted by the guy behind the counter, ashton. he's my next door neighbor. he's a sweetheart.
sometimes, he takes me to his storage unit across town and plays his drums for me.
he's pretty good.
he greets me with a smile and i return it. i order a small cup of coffee with two creams and 6 sugars. he's always liked to put them in for me. then i pay the usual $2.50 and walk over to my favorite table.
as i set my journal on the table, ashton calls my name to collect my coffee.
as i approach him, the bell above the door rings, making it clear that someone new has arrived.
i hear the person shuffle past me as i pick up my coffee.
i thank ashton as I walk back to my table, only to see a stranger moving my journal off of the table and to the table behind it before sitting in the seat I previously sat in.
I slowly walk over the table, thinking about what to say to the man. i'm a quiet person and i don't like confrontation.
as I come near the table, he looks up at me before his eyes widen.
"were you sitting here? i'm so sorry! i just assumed someone left this book here so i moved it."
i looked at the stranger with the beautiful brown glow on his skin as shook his head and stood up.
i muttered a small "thank you" as i sat down. he ran his hands through his hair before sighing and walking out of the coffee shop.
but before he could cross the street, he turned around and looked at me through the window before giving me a small nod of his head before walking across the road, down the street, and around the corner before disappearing.
yours,
sophia
