In my head he said, "Good. Let go of my hand now. . . . if you want." I tried but couldn't. It wasn't because he was holding it tight. It wasn't because he said I couldn't. It was because I wanted to hold his hand. And I think he wanted to hold mine.
-
After I didn't let go, I got embarrassed so that's when I actually wanted to. In a way, he seemed offended but I was too worried to care. I ran down stairs to my mom.
"I don't actually have to live with him, do I?" She paused what she was doing and straightened up. "Yes, you do. And you may never come back, understood?"
"Bu -- but --''
"If you're not gone by midnight, I'll throw all your things out."
What's gotten into her? She's acting so weird right now, I just don't understand. Is she really that mad at me?
"Look, Mom, I'm sorry but --"
"Get out."
My eyes watered and I just ran to my room. I didn't know what to do so I just did what I was told and gathered my stuff that I just unpacked. I really hoped that this would be a good year, too. Or even just a couple months.
I bent down to get my shoes out of my closet when I felt a hand on my back. I flinched a little and saw it was William. I wiped my tears, embarrassed with myself and all of a sudden everything was packed and ready with the snap of William's fingers.
"Thanks." I was about to get my bags and bring them downstairs but they disappeared. William hugged me from behind and whispered in my ear, "They in Lyle's car. I'm so sorry about Vlad. He's just.. Well, he sucks."
I let out a small laugh at his pun and started going downstairs avoiding eye contact with my mom. She didn't even say anything to me. Not a single word, not even a small "goodbye".
Feeling depressed and alone, William was already waiting in the car for me. Before I could, the door opened and I hopped inside as the door shut behind me.
"You know, I don't get why I have to be in the back," complained Lyle. "It's MY car." His face got slightly red.
"Don't let your ager issues take control of you or I will." Vlad seemed pretty threatening when he said that. To be honest, I was a little frightened myself especially because before I knew it, they were already arguing so I just turned around and put my eyes on the road.
William reached for my hand and stroked it softly. "I'm sorry, Luna. Are you all right?"
"Oh, uhm, yes, I'm fine. Where are we going?"
"Ooh, you'll see." He peeked over at my confused face and all he did was wink.
I crossed my fingers just hoping we wouldn't go to some fairyland where different types of odd creatures live.
It's unfortunate than my dreadful thought came true.
